James Castronuovo of Maple Glen and Ben Mayer of Garnet Valley each carded a solid 7-over-par 77 at The Bucks Club in Jamison as they shared the top spot in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Tuesday.
Castronuovo made a birdie at the 10th hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard, including six straight to close out his round. Mayer made birdies at the 11th and 15th holes and had nine pars on his card. Their 77s were the best scores recorded by any of the boys teeing it up at the par-70 Bucks Club layout.
Colin Sarnoski of Coopersburg made birdies at the third, ninth, 12th and 16th holes and had five pars on his card as he finished a shot out of the tie for first place, ending up alone in third with a 78.
Alex Topping of Philadelphia took fourth place with an 80 and Michael Furey of Warrington was fifth with an 81. A couple of guys playing not far from their Jamison homes, A.J. Molnar and Chase Kerskey, shared sixth place with Daniel Rozinsky of Newtown as all three signed for an 84.
Owen Grimes of Malvern and Zach Shrager, another Jamison guy, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each recording an 85.
It was an equally tight battle at the top of the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division as a couple of Doylestown guys, Anthony Loria and John Hoderny, each claimed victory with an 8-over 78.
Loria made birdies at the second, fifth and 16th holes and had seven pars on his scorecard while Hoderny made birdies at the seventh and 11th holes and had 11 pars on his card, including six straight to close out his round.
Liam Stinson of Wallingford had nine pars on his card as he finished in third place with an 80.
P.J. Geib of Jenkintown and Dave Cronan of Penn Valley shared fourth place, each landing on 84 and Liam Gamble of Line Lexington and David Fiorita, playing close to his Jamison home, finished in a tie for sixth place, each signing for an 85.
Ethan Niu of Gladwyne took eighth place with an 87 and Gavin Schroeder of Bensalem and Anant Jain of Swedesboro, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as each registered an 88 to finish in a tie for ninth place.
The best score among the girls also emerged from the younger 13-to-15 division as Upper Dublin junior Talia Hoffner captured the win with a solid 8-over 78 that was highlighted by back-to-back birdies at the 13th and 14th holes and seven pars.
Elayna Fanelli of Villanova had a nice runnerup finish as she made a birdie at the 12th hole and had eight pars on her scorecard on her way to an 81.
Freja Jensen of Solebury made pars on the fifth and ninth holes as she rounded out the 13-to-15 division field by finishing in third place with a 110.
Sabrina Swope of Levittown was the only entry in the 16-to-18 division and had three pars on her card on her way to a 99.
Rayan Shah of Newtown made pars on his first four holes and finished with six overall as he bested a contentious field of nine-holers with a 4-over 40.
Judd Fletcher of Moorestown, N.J. had five pars on his scorecard as he earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 41, a shot behind Shah. Alex DiGiacinto of Nazareth made a birdie on the third hole and had two pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Fletcher in third place with a 42.
Another member of what has been a formidable group from Nazareth throughout the 2022 season, Dane Mohap, finished a shot behind DiGiacinto in fourth place with a 43.
Alaina Carson of Broomall, Thomas Carpenter of Bristol and Henry Mysliwiec of Doylestown finished in a tie for fifth place, each carding a 45.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr took eighth place with a 46 and Carter Hippauf of Quakertown was ninth with a 48 as only eight shots separated first place from ninth place.
Reid Tornetta of Collegeville rounded out the coed 12-and-under division field as he recorded a 53 to finish alone in 10th place.
