Maxwell Wager, a member of the State College team that was the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior League champion in 2019, had the day’s best score, a 3-over-par 75, at Lebanon Country Club to claim a victory in the 13-to-15 division of a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Sunday, a day that started chilly before warming up nicely in bright sunshine.
Maxwell got off to a fast start with a birdie at the second hole and closed with a birdie on the final hole at Lebanon to cruise to a four-shot victory in the younger division for the guys.
Joseph Sambrot of Harrisburg had an eagle on the par-5 10th hole and had two birdies on his scorecard as he claimed runnerup honors in the 13-to-15 division with a 7-over 79.
Alistair Demko of Hershey and Grant Novinger of Hummelstown finished in a tie for third place, each registering an 81. Colin Vineburg of Sparks, Md. took fifth place with an 82 and Dylan Ramsey of Hershey was sixth with an 84.
Aidan Farkas of Ardmore and Trevor Snyder of Dover shared seventh place, each posting an 85. Rounding out the top 10 were two players – Connor Matteo of Drums and Davis Conaway, the Malvern Prep seventh-grader who dominated the coed 12-and-under division in the wraparound 2019-2020 season – who finished in a tie for ninth place, each signing for an 86.
Luke Spangler of Fredericksburg had two birdies and no bogeys on the back nine at Lebanon on his way to a 4-over 76 that earned him top honors in the 16-to-18 division.
Jake Shmonov of Harrisburg and Sawyer Marten of East Petersburg shared second place, each breaking 80 with a solid 79. Kole Washloski of Douglassville and Ben Freeman, playing close to his Lebanon home, finished in a tie for fourth place, each registering an 80.
Jared Foltz of Wyomissing took sixth place with an 81, Jack Farkas of Ardmore’s Team Farkas was seventh with an 88 and Malvern Prep senior Dimitri Collias, a King of Prussia resident, was eighth with an 89.
Rounding out the top 10 were two players – Victor Mominey of Spring City and Aidan DeMuro of Harrisburg – who finished in a tie for ninth place, each signing for a 93.
Only two girls teed it up at Lebanon and the low score of the day was the 93 posted by Elle Overly of Lititz in the 13-to-15 division. Overly had five pars on her scorecard. Carly Gavant of Hoboken, N.J. had four pars and was just a shot behind Overly with a 94 in the 16-to-18 division.
Lawson Leeper of York completed a sweep of the coed 12-and-under division over the weekend as he had three pars on his way to a 6-over 42 that bested the field of nine-holers. Leeper was the division winner a day earlier in a Junior Tour stop at Foxchase Golf Club.
Alan Evans of Schuylkill Haven birdied the par-5 second hole to take second place with a 45. Avery O’Neill of Romansville made a par on the second hole and finished alone in third place with a 49.
Benjamin Mayer of Garnet Valley took fourth place with a 53, Luke Fallon of Reading was fifth with a 55, Katherine Liu of Garnet Valley was sixth with a 57 and Preston Mineo of Lansdale rounded out the coed 12-and-under division field by finishing seventh with a 61.
