Strath Haven senior Jackson Debusschere had hoped to spend the weekend preparing for the PIAA Class AAA Championship, but the coronavirus pandemic denied him the opportunity to participate in the high school postseason.
Strath Haven is playing dual matches in the Central League, but Jackson Debusschere won’t ever get another chance to make the state tournament as an individual again. To fill the void, Jackson Debusschere and his brother Tyler, a sophomore, have used the weekend events on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour this fall to show how much their hard work on their games has paid off.
Jackson Debusschere, playing on a sparkling fall Saturday, fired a 2-over-par 74 at Foxchase Golf Club in Stevens, Lancaster County to claim a victory in the 16-to-18 division. Jackson Debusschere had four birdies on his scorecard, including three in a stretch of four holes on the back nine to finish three shots clear of the field of older guys.
Meanwhile, Tyler Debusschere had birdies on the fifth and seventh holes as he finished third in the 13-to-15 division with a solid 7-over 79.
Cardinal O’Hara senior Thomas Larkin and Nathan Guertler of Merchantville, N.J. finished in a tie for second place in the 16-to-18 division as each posted a 5-over 77. Larkin, a Drexel Hill resident, birdied the 14th hole while Guertler had two birdies, one on each side.

Rounding out the top 10 among the younger guys were three players – Quinton Heljenek of Glenside, J.D. Mahoney of Ellicott City, Md., and Drew Clark of Kennett Square – tied for ninth place, each carding an 87.
Germantown Academy sophomore Serena Bagga, another member of Blue Bell’s Team Bagga, had two birdies, one on each side, as she posted a 6-over 78 to claim medalist honors in the girls 16-to-18 division. Serena Bagga played on the boys team at GA as a freshman a year ago.

Kayley Roberts birdied the 13th hole to earn runnerup honors with an 81.
