Kyle Mauro of Paoli earned his first Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory of the wraparound 2020-2021 season with a solid 2-over-par 72 that left him atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division on a sparkling fall Saturday at Spring Hollow Golf Course near Spring City in Chester County.
Mauro had three birdies on his scorecard and finished strong with a 1-under 34 on the back nine of the 6,006-yard, par-70 Spring Hollow layout. Boyertown senior John Engel, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier a year ago, was the runnerup, finishing a shot behind Mauro with a 3-over 73 that featured birdies at the sixth, 11th and 13th holes.
Downingtown East junior Jake Leon made an eagle on the par-5 14th hole on his way to a 6-over 76 that left him alone in third place. Jack Sehon of West Chester, Dylan Gute of Chester Springs and Corey Anderson of Media each carded a 77 and finished in a tie for fourth place.
Oxford senior Joseph Madden registered a 78 to finish alone in seventh place. Kristof Kopecky of Garnet Valley and Victor Mominey, playing close to his Spring City home, shared eighth place as each signed for a 79.
Rounding out the top 10 were two players -- Pope John Paul II junior Paul Brady, the reigning District One Class AA champion, and Aaron Skii of West Chester -- who finished in a tie for ninth place, each landing on 81.
Luke Fazio of Schwenksville and Ethan Martin of North Wales finished tied atop the 13-to-15 division as each carded a solid 4-over 74. Fazio had two birdies on the front nine while Martin saved his best stuff for the back nine, which he toured in even-par.
Josh Bardsley of Gilbertsville birdied the first hole on his way to an 80 that enabled him to take third place. Matthew Sanderson of Newtown and Zachary Antao of Chadds Ford shared fourth place, each posting an 83.
Tyler Ott of Birdsboro and Jake Blackmore of Pottstown finished in a tie for sixth place as each carded an 85. Nicolas Zimmerman of Phoenixville ended up alone in eighth place with an 86.
William Aprahamian of West Chester and William Irons of Blue Bell rounded out the top 10 as they shared ninth place, each registering an 87.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy senior Emma Schotsch made three birdies on the front nine to claim the victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with an 80, her best round in Junior Tour play this year. Mary Emma Guldi of West Chester had seven pars as she earned runnerup honors with an 86.
Phoenixville’s Team Roberts made it a 1-2 finish in the 13-to-15 division. Kayley Roberts finished first as she had eight pars and two birdies on her scorecard to match the 80 recorded by Schotsch. Kate Roberts closed with a birdie at the 18th hole to earn runnerup honors with an 83.
Jillian Burks of Paoli birdied the 14th hole and needed just 27 putts to negotiate the Spring Hollow putting surfaces as she finished alone in third place with an 86. Alessia DeMatteo of Gladwyne rounded out the 13-to-15 field as she posted a 104 to take fourth place.
Liam McFadden of Bryn Mawr bested an increasingly contentious field of nine-holers as he finished up with a run of three straight pars to register a 4-over 39. It was McFadden’s first Junior Tour win of the 2020-’21 campaign. Anthony Proud of Stroudsburg had five pars, three straight to start his round and two on the final two holes, as he finished a shot behind McFadden in second place with a 5-over 40.
Ian Rotto of Kennett Square had three pars on his way to a 42 that left him alone in third place. Colby Komancheck of Royersford was a shot behind Rotto in fourth place with a 43.
Nathan Lobo of Collegeville and Declan Conner of Swarthmore shared fifth place, each carding a 44, and Quin Zuegner of New Hope finished alone in seventh place with a 46. Avery O’Neill of Romansville and Charlie Barrickman of West Chester finished in a tie for eighth place, each signing for a 47.
Three players – Dariel Rozinsky of Newtown, Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap and David Nissen of Lower Gwynedd – rounded out the top 10 as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each posting a 48.
