When Meghan Fahey carded a 4-over 76 in a
U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship qualifier June 22 at Silver Creek Country Club,
it left her a single frustrating shot short of a trip to Ridgewood Country Club
in Paramus, N.J. for one of the biggest events on the junior girls calendar.
She did, however, earn first-alternate status and over the
weekend somebody somewhere informed the USGA she couldn’t make the trip and
Fahey got the call that every first alternate hopes for. She’s in, according to
a couple of very reliable sources.
So, Merion Golf Club, Overbrook Golf Club and the Inter-Ac
League will be represented when Fahey tees it up at the A.W. Tillinghast
classic beginning next Monday.
Fahey helped the Academy of Notre Dame claim its eighth straight Inter-Ac title last spring and capped the season by capturing the league’s individual
title with a 36 at Gulph Mills Golf Club that featured four birdies. Fahey is moving to Agnes Irwin, where she will be a junior this fall.
