Shurman's steady round at Philmont earns him a Philly Junior Tour victory

 

   Jesse Shurman, a Villanova resident and a sophomore on the golf team at The Haverford School, put together a solid 4-over-par 74 at Philmont Country Club to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Aug. 24^th.

   Jesse Shurman made birdies at the eighth and 16^th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard, including a stretch when he made five straight pars from three through seven, in a nice performance on a challenging Philmont layout.

   Cooper Micucci of Philadelphia had a steady round that included 13 pars, including a string of seven straight pars to open his round, as he earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 75 that left him a shot behind Jesse Shurman.

   Logan Hyndman, a Newtown resident and a senior on the golf team at The Pennington School, made a birdie at the 12^th hole and had 10 pars on his card, finishing his round with six straight pars to end up in third place with a 76.

   Carter Hemminger, a senior on the golf team at Upper Moreland, and Vaughn Smartt of Bryn Mawr shared fourth place, each posting an 80, Brayden Hughes of Hockessin, Del. was alone in sixth with an 83 and the trio of Victor Frederico of Moorestown, N.J., Jake Capps, a junior on the Abington golf team, and Joey Higgins, a senior on the golf team for defending Philadelphia Pubic League champion Philadelphia Academy Charter, finished in a tie for seventh, each signing for an 84.

   Liam Ren of Garnet Valley took 10^th place with an 87 and Chase Schmidt of Waterford, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 11^th with an 89.

   A couple of Newtown Square guys, Bobby Stefanski and Stephen Comly III, had a respective 1-2 finish in the 13-to-15 division.

   Bobby Stefanski made birdies at the fourth, 15^th and 18^th holes and had seven pars on his scorecard, including a stretch of four consecutive pars from 11 through 14, as he finished at the top the leaderboard with a solid 6-over 76.

   Stephen Comly made birdies at the sixth and 16^th holes and had seven pars on his card, matching Bobby Stefanski with a run of four straight pars from 11 through 14, as he earned runnerup honors with an 80.

   Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr and Council Rock North sophomore Rithvik Nimma, a District One Class AAA qualifier a year ago, finished in a tie for third place, each recording an 81.

   Gilbert, who represented the Philly Junior Tour in the Under Armour Jon M. Pritsch Memorial Cup three days earlier at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, made birdies at the fourth, sixth and 10^th holes and had four pars on his card.

   Nimma had nine pars on his card, finishing up his round with four straight pars.

   There was a four-player logjam tied for fifth place at 82 that included Gavin Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J., Mark Westfall of Medford, N.J., Ryan Comly, another member of Newtown Square’s Team Comly, and Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg.

   Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. took ninth place with an 85 and Ryan Orrino of Ivyland rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10^th with an 87.

   Emmerson Gleber, a senior on the golf team at the Wilmington Charter School, had the best score among the girls as she had eight pars on her scorecard with separate runs of four straight pars from the sixth through the ninth holes and again from 12 through 15 on her way to an 89.

   Gleber was the lone entrant in the girls 16-to-18 division.

   Gabrielle Kim of Ambler had six pars on her scorecard as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 91.

   Olivia Cahill of Wayne made a par at the seventh hole as she earned runnerup honors with a 115. Naaya Patel of Moorestown, N.J. made a par at the 13^th hole as she finished in third place with a 117.

   Autumn Jue of Wayne rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in fourth place with a 118.

   Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr has been one of the top players among the boys 12-and-under nine-holers, including a victory in the Philly Junior Tour 12-and-under Championship at McCall Golf & Country Club earlier in August.

   He went back-to-back with birdies at the fourth and fifth holes at Philmont, added another birdie at seven and had three pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 2-over 39.

   Ryan Stefanski, another member of Newtown Square’s Team Stefanski, made birdies at the fourth and seventh holes and had three pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 3-over 40.

   Samuel Karas of Blue Bell, coming off co-medalist honors in a Philly Junior Tour Nine-Hole Series event at Moselem Springs Golf Club four days earlier, made a birdie at the eighth hole and had three pars on his card as he finished in third place with a 4-over 41.

   Kash Gray of Eagleville took fourth place a 44 and there was a four-way logjam tied for fifth at 45 that included Blake Shurman, another member of Villanova’s Team Shurman, Michael Antolino of Richboro, Ryan Kaye of Lansdale and Ethan Hong of Wayne.

   Smith Rawes of Elkins Park took ninth place with a 50, Adam Feith of Merion Station was 10^th with a 51 and Layton Ng of Huntingdon Valley rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 11^th with a 69.

   Julie Prickitt of Ambler, coming off a victory in the Philly Junior Tour Nine-Hole Series stop at Moselem Springs, made a par on the third hole as she bested the field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers with a 48.

   Addison Sabatini of West Chester made a par at the fourth hole as she earned runnerup honors with a 53.

   Allison Hong, another member of Wayne’s Team Hong, rounded out the field in the girls 12-and-under division as she finished in third place with a 65.
