Boyertown senior Chase Dillman was gearing up for a run to the PIAA Class AAA Championship when he captured a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a 1-over-par 73 Oct. 5th at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown.
A little more than a week later, Dillman bounced back from an opening-round 82 in fierce winds at Turtle Creek Golf Course with a solid 1-over 73 in the second round as he finished in a tie for seventh place in the District One Class AAA Championship and punched his ticket to the state tournament, which gets under way Monday at Penn State.
At Berkleigh, Dillman made a birdie at the fifth hole, an eagle at the par-5 16th and had 12 pars on his scorecard, seven of them while touring the incoming nine at Berkleigh in 1-under 36. It was his 10th Philly Junior Tour victory of the season.
Zac Devos, a junior on the Bensalem golf team, made birdies on the seventh, 10th, 16th and 18th holes and had five pars on his card as he finished four shots behind Dillman in second place with a 5-over 77.
Three days later, Devos became the first player in the history of the Bensalem program to capture the Suburban One League’s individual crown at Five Ponds Golf Club.
Liam McFadden, a junior on The Haverford School golf team, made birdies on the 13th, 16th and 18th holes and had nine pars on his card, including a string of five straight pars from the second through the ninth holes, as he took third place with an 81.
McFadden helped the Fords wrap up the Inter-Ac League championship last week as they finished in second place in the last of the six invitationals that make up the league’s regular season, the Malvern Prep Invitational at Waynesborough Country Club.
Jayden Keenoy, a senior on the Neshaminy golf team, rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished two shots behind McFadden in fourth place with an 83.
Henry Sokol of Villanova had a steady round of 4-over 76 to finish at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division at Berkleigh. Sokol made birdies at the second and fifth holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard.
Logan Turner of Berwyn made a birdie at the fifth hole and had 11 pars on his card, seven of them while matching par on Berkleigh’s outgoing nine with a 35, as he earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 77.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr made birdies on the fifth and 18th holes and had nine pars on his scorecard as he finished in third place with an 81.
Another Bryn Mawr guy, William Quartermain, winner of the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Junior-Junior Championship in the summer at the Moorestown Field Club, finished in fourth place, a shot behind Thorkelson with an 82.
Collin Padovani of Jonestown took fifth place with an 84, Brody Campbell of Plymouth Meeting was sixth with an 86, Jesse Shurman of Villanova was seventh with an 87 and Landon Chandler of Lancaster was eighth with an 88.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Paul O’Malley of Eagleville and Tucker Detwiler of West Chester as they finished in a tie for ninth place, each signing for an 89.
Vidushi Gupta of Malvern had the best score among the girls as she had 10 pars on her scorecard on her way to a solid 84 that gave her a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division.
Alexa Shure, another Malvern entry, made pars on the 13th and 15th holes as she rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division by earning runnerup honors with a 99.
Ava McCaughn of West Chester was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and she made a par on the 13th hole while claiming a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 100.
Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring made an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole and had five pars on his scorecard, finishing up his round with pars at seven, eight and nine, as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 1-over 36.
Xunnan Dang of Newtown Square made a birdie on the seventh hole and had five pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Naseem in second place with a 2-over 37.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr had six pars on his card, rattling off five straight pars from the second through the sixth holes, as he finished in third place with a 4-over 39.
Connor Michaels of Lancaster and Bryce Bussom of Lewisburg shared fourth place, each tallying a 41, Joe Bowers, another Lewisburg guy, was sixth with a 43 and Jaxson Freeborn of Reading and Connor Masulis of Pottstown finished in a tie for seventh, each recording a 45.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. took ninth place with a 48, Blake Shurman, another member of Villanova’s Team Shurman, was 10th with a 50 and Jasper Zhang of West Chester rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing 11th with a 53.
