Debusschere heats up at Kimberton with a 68 that gives him a Junior Tour victory

Strath Haven junior Tyler Debusschere got it going in Sunday’s Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Kimberton Golf Club in Phoenixville as he scorched the George Fazio design for five birdies in a 2-under-par 68 that gave him a six-shot victory in the 13-to-15 division.

With high school golf in a state of flux at this time last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Debusschere had several strong showings on the Junior Tour. Debusschere was denied a chance to play in the PIAA postseason when the Central League was unable to put together a District One qualifier in time.

A Central League Championship was played after the PIAA Championship and Debusschere finished in fourth place at Downingtown Country Club and led the Panthers to the tournament team title.

Gearing up for the PIAA postseason this fall, Debusschere made birdies at the second, third, 10th, 15th and 17th holes and had 10 pars on a spectacular late-summer Sunday at Kimberton.

Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell birdied the first hole and had 12 pars on his scorecard as he earned runnerup honors with a 4-over 74 that was the second-best score of the day among the guys overall. Macade Knoblauch of Pottstown made birdies at the fifth and 10th holes and had eight pars on his card as he took third place with a 78.

Chase Dillman of Gilbertsville finished in fourth place with an 80 and Seiji Sako of Wynnewood was fifth with an 81.

Brendan Reilly of Doylestown and Jack Crowley of Wayne shared sixth place, each posting an 83, and Marcus Smith of Gilbertsville and Christopher Sung of Paoli finished in a tie for eighth, each carding an 85.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills and Owen Tilsner of Dresher as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each signing for an 87.

Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J. and J.R. McMenamin of Pottstown each registered a 6-over 76 as they finished tied atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division. Jordan made a birdie at the 10th hole and had 11 pars on his scorecard and McMenamin made birdies at one and 17 and had eight pars on his card.

Jeremiah Brown of Audubon and Owen J. Roberts senior Victor Mominy, playing on the Wildcats’ home course, finished in a tie for third place, each posting a 77. Brown made birdies at the ninth, 12th and 15th holes and had six pars on his card and Mominy made birdies at seven, 10, 12 and 15 and had five pars on his card.

Ryan Horenci of Collegeville finished alone in fifth place with an 80. Matthew Dietl of Glenmoore, Jack Brennan of Pottstown and Owen Wisner of Reading shared sixth place, each landing on 82.

Rounding out the top 10 were three players – Garrett Wible of Royersford, Jack Ebert of Bryn Mawr and Frankie Sass of Exton – who finished in a tie for ninth place, each signing for an 83.

The best score among the girls also came out of the younger 13-to-15 division as Kiran Bagga of Blue Bell’s Team Bagga made back-to-back birdies at the ninth and 10th holes and had five pars on her scorecard as she claimed a victory with a solid 10-over 80.

Sophia DeSantis of Glen Mills made birdies at the second, fifth and sixth holes and, after an up-and-down front nine, DeSantis rattled off six straight pars to open the incoming nine at Kimberton as she was the runnerup with an 82. Elayna Fanelli of Villanova had five pars on her card as she finished in third place with a 90.

Kaitlyn Hummers of Bethlehem took fourth place with a 91, Mina Benedetto of West Chester was fifth with a 92 and Ananda Leahy of Gladwyne rounded out the 13-to-15 division field as she posted a 94 to finish sixth.

Central Bucks East junior Nina Harris birdied the 18th hole to edge Keerthana Rajamohan of Limerick by a shot and claim the top spot in the 16-to-18 division with a 92. Rajamohan ended up with a 93 that was highlighted by a par at the 14th hole.

Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap made a birdie on the sixth hole and had five pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 2-over 36.

Sarah Stumacher of Gladwyne had four pars as she earned runnerup honors with a 5-over 39. Quin Zeigner of New Hope had three pars on his way to a 6-over 40 that left him alone in third place.

Lawson Leeper of York and Anthony Proud of Stroudsburg were another shot behind Zeigner in a tie for fourth place, each signing for a 41. Colby Komancheck of Royersford carded a 42 to finish alone in sixth place.

Rounding out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division was a quartet of players tied for seventh place at 43, including Ayden Gallen of Broomall, Miles McGinty of Lititz, Henry Kessler of Blue Bell and Vyom Shukla of Berwyn.
