Baldwin junior Megan Adelman put together a solid 5-over-par 73 over the short, but challenging Bala Golf Club layout just inside the city limits of Philadelphia as she captured a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division on a spectacular final Sunday of summer.
Adelman’s steady round included a birdie at the fifth hole and 12 pars. She made pars on the first eight holes of the incoming nine at Bala.
Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the short 16-to-18 division field as she was the runnerup with an 89 that featured five pars.
Sophia DeSantis of Glen Mills edged Makayla Stone of Garnet Valley and Mini Benedetto of West Chester by a shot to finish atop the 13-to-15 leaderboard with an 88. DeSantis had six pars on her scorecard.
Stone also had six pars on her card on her way to an 89. Benedetto matched that total with an 89 that included five pars as Stone and Benedetto shared runnerup honors to round out the field of younger girls.
The best score among the guys emerged from the younger 13-to-15 division as Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. made a birdie at the 15th hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard on his way to a 9-over 77 over the par-68 Bala layout.
Gavin McClaskey of Williamstown, N.J. had six pars on his way to an 80 that earned him runnerup honors. Davis Fairbanks of Swarthmore made birdies at the 11th and 18th holes and had two pars as he took third place with an 83.
Seiji Sako of Wynnewood took fourth place with an 84, Shane Callahan of Schwenksville was fifth with an 85, Michael Liu of Garnet Valley was sixth with an 86 and Owen Tilsner of Dresher was seventh with an 87.
Owen Grimes of Malvern finished alone in eighth place with an 88 and the trio of Joseph Bongiovanni of Ardmore, Matthew Caputo of Swarthmore and Jack Rogers of King of Prussia rounded out the top 10 among the younger guys as they shared ninth place, each posting an 89.
Jeffrey Seiler of Hatfield made birdies at the first, 13th and 16th holes and had two pars as he claimed the top spot in the 16-to-18 division with an 81.
Nathan Jones of Wayne made birdies at the sixth and 13th holes and had four pars on his way to an 85 that gave him a second-place finish. J.R. McMenamin of Pottstown made birdies at the fifth and 13th holes and had four pars as he finished alone in third place with an 88.
Jack Ebert of Bryn Mawr took fourth place with an 89 and Reid Walker of Riverton, N.J. and Alec Plante of Glen Mills shared fifth, each signing for a 91.
Jack Smalley of Ardmore took seventh place with a 96, Nicholas Ryan of Medford, N.J. was eighth with a 98 and Jacob Littleton of Williamstown, N.J. rounded out the 16-to-18 division as he carded a 103 to finish ninth.
Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap bested the field of nine-holers in a second straight Philly Junior Tour event as he birdied the seventh hole and had seven pars on his way to a solid 1-over 34. Mack, who has been playing solid golf throughout 2021, was coming off a victory in the very competitive coed 12-and-under division last Sunday at Kimberton Golf Club.
Colby Komancheck of Royersford birdied the third hole and had five pars on his scorecard as he claimed runnerup honors with a 3-over 36.
Benjamin Mayer of Garnet Valley and Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. shared third place, each registering a 5-over 39. Both had four pars on their respective cards.
Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. and William Johnson of Berwyn finished in a tie for fifth place, each carding a 42. Alex DiGiacinto of Nazareth, William Littleton of Fort Washington and Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. ended up in a tie for seventh place, each posting a 43.
Justin Stickel of Churchville rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished alone in 10th place with a 44.
