Will Locovare of Warrington carded a solid 1-over-par 73 to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division as Mother Nature kept the heat on high Monday at Yardley Country Club.
Locovare had a pair of birdies, one on each side, to earn a one-shot win over a competitive older group of junior golfers at Yardley as only four shots separated the top-10 finishers.
La Salle junior Darren Nolan, a key contributor for the Explorers on their way to a third-place finish in the PIAA Class AAA team chase last fall, and Alexander Feraco of Furlong shared second place as each registered a 2-over 74.
The Yardley Junior Tour stop always includes a strong contingent from the Pennsbury golf team and two of the Falcons who qualified for the District One Class AAA Championship last fall, Chris Myers and Ryan Rearden, were part of a trio of players who finished in a tie for fourth place at 3-over 75. Pennsbury was the runnerup to Strath Haven in the District One Class AAA team standings at Turtle Creek Golf Club.
Rounding out that trio at 3-over 75 was Zachary Sandler of Gladwyne. Joshua Cicco of Yardley finished alone in seventh place with a 4-over 76.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were three players tied for eighth place at 5-over 77, including Brett Ostroski of Shavertown, Brett McGrath of Huntingdon Valley and Colton Murray of Sewell, N.J. Ostroski was coming off an impressive Junior Tour victory last week at Skippack Golf Club.
Strath Haven sophomore Tyler Debusschere, who helped the Panthers claim the first Central League title in program history last fall, has been in contention all summer in the 13-to-15 division and broke through with a win at Yardley. Debusschere had four birdies in a 4-over 76 that topped the field in the younger age group.
Nathan Guertler of Merchantville, N.J., who has also been appearing on Junior Tour leaderboards a lot this summer, birdied the seventh hole as he earned runnerup honors in the 13-to-15 division, a shot behind Debusschere with a 5-over 77.
Noah Wallace of Elkton, Md. had three birdies on his way to a 78 that earned him a third-place finish. Kevin Wortmann of Lords Valley took fourth place with a 79.
Charles Feraco of Furlong’s Team Feraco and Brendan Reilly of Doylestown shared fifth place, each posting an 81. Three more players, Kyle Mauro of Paoli, Luke Fazio of Schwenksville and Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell, were a shot behind Feraco and Reilly in a tie for seventh place, each signing for an 82.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was Cyrus Parvizi of Gladwyne, who finished alone in 10th place with an 84.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. continued her strong run of summer play as she had two birdies to capture a victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with an 81. Ashley Ea of Perkasie carded an 84 that included a solid front-nine 39 to earn runnerup honors.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy senior Emma Schotsch had two birdies on her way to a 90 that left her alone in third place.
Elizabeth Rafferty of Newtown took fourth place with a 94, Meredith Beyer of Avondale was fifth with a 98 and Alexander Petkunas of Ambler rounded out the 16-to-18 field as she ended up in sixth place with a 115.
Serena Bagga of Blue Bell’s Team Bagga and Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. shared the top spot in the 13-to-15 division, each carding an 85.
Bagga, who played on the boys team at Germantown Academy as a freshman last fall, had a 41 on Yardley’s outgoing nine while Puc posted a 41 on the back nine.
Olivia Kury of York finished in third place with a 90 that included four pars. Another member of Blue Bell’s Team Bagga, Kiran Bagga, took fourth place with a 91, Julia McCloskey of Princeton Junction, N.J. was fifth with a 92 and Emma Li of Newtown was sixth with a 98.
Nina Harris of Furlong finished in seventh place with a 100 and Katelyn Balk of Yardley rounded out the 13-to-15 field as she finished eighth with a 111.
Davis Conaway of East Bradford continued his summer-long roll as he had eight pars in a 3-over 39 that gave him yet another victory in the coed 12-and-under division.
Hank Kancher of Philadelphia had five pars as he finished a shot behind Conaway in the competitive group of nine-holers with a 4-over 40. Lawson Leeper of York had three pars as he took third place with a 42.
Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. finished in fourth place with a 44, Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was fifth with a 45 and Michael Liu of Garnet Valley was sixth with a 46.
Brad McDermott of Bryn Mawr and Jackson Lane of Cinnaminson, N.J. shared seventh place, each carding a 48, and Brady Kelly of Warrington was ninth with a 51. Rounding out the top 10 among the nine-holers were Lucas Zhang of Yardley and Casey Baltzer of Langhorne, both of whom posted a 55 to finish in a tie for 10th place.
