Josh Cicco, a senior on a strong Pennsbury golf team that
was the runnerup to Strath Haven in the District One Class AAA team
championship last fall, made it two wins in as many days on the Philadelphia
Section PGA Junior Tour Wednesday as he topped the 16-to-18 age group with a
6-over-par 78 at The Shore Club in Cape May Court House, N.J.
Cicco, who shared the top spot in the older age group with
two other players in a Junior Tour stop at Northampton Valley Country Club,
birdied the 12th hole on his way to the win at The Shore Club.
I took a trip to The Shore Club right after the Memorial Day
weekend and reported on the efforts of Fred Riedel, the Director of Golf, and the rest of the team there as they continue to transition the course from the old Wildwood Golf
& Country Club to a rebranded present and future and my story appears in
the current edition of Tri-State Golfer, which can be found in pro shops
all around the region.
Riedel and his crew at The Shore Club were still emerging
from the coronavirus-enforced shutdown this spring, but were optimistic that
the future for the club remains bright. It’s nice to see The Shore Club was
able to play host to a Junior Tour stop.
Elijah Ruppert, who finished in a tie for third in the PIAA
Class AA Championship as a junior at Brandywine Heights last fall, shared
runnerup honors with Robert Dominy of Moorestown, N.J. as each carded a 79 to
finish a shot behind Cicco.
Spring-Ford senior Luke Watson and Cole Apeldorn of
Southampton finished in a tie for fourth place, each landing on 81.
Jim Kelly of Slatington finished in sixth place with an 82,
Jake Riggs of Rio Grande, N.J. was seventh with an 85 and Charlie Hurchalla of
Wallingford and Owen Haggerty of Dunmore shared eighth place, each signing for
an 86.
Three players, Riley Mostecki of Linwood, N.J., Sean Maguire
of Wayne and Luke Snyder of Exton, rounded out the top 10 as each posted an 87
to finish in a tie for 10th place.
Joe Halferty of Blue Bell matched Cicco’s 6-over 78 to earn
a victory in the 13-to-15 age group. Halferty birdied the 18th hole
to give him a one-shot edge over runnerup Nathan Guertler of Merchantville,
N.J. Guertler carded a solid 79 that was highlighted by a birdie at the ninth
hole.
Jake Micewski of Broomall and Matthew Normand of Lumberton,
N.J. each posted an 81 to finish in a tie for third place. Nicky Riscica of
Windermere, Fla. was two shots behind Micewski and Normand in fifth place with
an 83.
Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. and James DeRocini of West
Deptford, N.J. shared sixth place, each signing for an 85.
Joseph Fabian of Manahawkin, N.J. took eighth place with a
92, Travis Robertson of Fort Washington was ninth with a 94 and Owen Reape of
Blue Bell rounded out the top 10 as he finished alone in 10th with a
95.
Emma Schotsch, whose junior season at Springside Chestnut
Hill Academy was a victim of the coronavirus pandemic this spring, finished
atop the girls 16-to-18 leaderboard with an 88 that featured birdies at the
sixth and 10th holes.
Katrina Cabinian of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. and Olivia Strigh
of Hammonton, N.J. were a shot behind Schotsch in a tie for second place, each
registering an 89.
Skye Mada of Cherry Hill, N.J. took fourth place with a 98,
Haley Cohn, playing close to her Cape May Court House, N.J. home, was fifth
with a 133 and Morgan Delany of Swainton, N.J. was sixth with a 138.
Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. finished strong, making
five straight pars down the stretch to card a 92 that earned her a victory in
the 13-to-15 division. Savannah Thompson of Seaville, N.J. was the runnerup to
Bunch with a 98.
Kiersten Bodge made four pars, including three on the last
four holes, to edge fellow West Chester resident Davis Conaway by a shot to
claim top honors in the coed 12-and-under division.
Bodge posted a solid 6-over 42 while Conaway, who has been a
fixture on the leaderboard among the nine-holers this year, ended up with a 43.
Conaway opened his round with five straight pars and finished up with a sixth
par on his last hole.
Jake Hollerback of Millsboro, Del. and Trevor Sieben of
Medford, N.J. were another shot behind Conaway in the competitive division as
each carded a 44 to share third place.
Anthony Proud of Stroudsburg took fifth place with a 46,
Daniel Herzchel of Linwood, N.J. was sixth with a 47 and Liam McFadden of Bryn
Mawr was seventh with a 53.
Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. finished in eighth place
with a 54 and Emma DiPatri of Franklinville, N.J. rounded out the field of
nine-holers, taking ninth with a 70.
The Shore Club stop also included an opportunity for some
college players to get some competition and Jarrett Brightbill of Harrisburg
fired a 5-over 77 to win the men’s 17-to-24 division. Brightbill had two
birdies, including one at the second hole that got his round going.
Bailey Neveker of Hanover chipped in for eagle on the par-5
12th hole as he claimed runnerup honors with an 80. Nikita Romanov,
the former Mount Pleasant standout whose freshman season at La Salle was cut
short by the pandemic, matched Brightbill’s birdie at the second hole to finish
third with an 81.
Trevor Keaton of Lansdale was a shot behind Romanov in
fourth place with an 82.
Anna McCormick of Harrisburg was the lone entry in the
women’s 17-to-24 division and she carded a 91 that included a solid back-nine
43.
