John Bradbeer of Bryn Mawr and Roy Anderson, a junior at
Unionville, each matched par on a hot and sunny Tuesday to share top honors in
the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at the
Kennett Square Golf & Country Club.
Bradbeer got off to a hot start with three birdies on the
front nine and added a birdie on the 16th hole to card an even-par
71 over the 6,205-yard, par-71 Donald Ross design at Kennett Square. Anderson’s
scorecard included 12 pars and birdies on the fourth, ninth and 16th
holes.
Plymouth-Whitemarsh junior Dylan Gooneratne had a birdie on
each nine in registering a 3-over 74 that enabled him to finish third. Alec
Stern of Bryn Mawr was another shot behind Gooneratne in fourth place with a
75.
Corey Haydu of Doylestown and Ryan McCabe, who finished in a
tie for second in the PIAA Class AA Championship as a sophomore at Devon Prep
last fall, shared fifth place, each posting a 76. Strath Haven senior Nick
Cardow was another shot behind Haydu and McCabe in seventh place with a 78.
Episcopal Academy senior Case Hummer, working his way back
into shape after missing his junior season with injury, and Michael Bozzi of
Newtown Square finished in a tie for eighth place each carding a 79.
Three players -- Garnet Valley senior Jake Sokalsky, Jack Sehon
of West Chester and Hunter King of Atglen – rounded out the top 10 as they
ended up in a tie for 10th, each posting an 80.
Eli Shah of Newtown Square had birdies on the second and 13th
holes on his way to a 2-over 73 that gave him a victory in the 13-to-15
division. Robert Dominy of Moorestown, N.J. registered back-to-back birdies on
the sixth and seventh holes to earn runnerup honors with a 76.
Chase Marinacci of Elverson and Matthew Normand of
Lumberton, N.J. shared third place, each carding an 80. Marinacci had three
birdies in his round and Normand had a pair of birdies on his scorecard.
There were four players tied for fifth at 81, including Drew
Clark of Kennett Square, Graham White of West Chester, Kristof Kopecky of
Garnet Valley and William Lesko of Villanova.
Rounding out the top 10 were four more players, three of
them from West Chester – Nicklaus Meisinger, Aaron Skii and Eric Miler – and
Matthew Pulcinella of Chadds Ford tied for ninth place, each posting an 83.
The best score of the day among the girls at Kennett Square
came from Sawyer Brockstedt, the phenom from Rehoboth Beach, Del. who fired a
sparkling 1-over 72 to take top honors in the 13-to-15 division. Brockstedt,
who qualified for the 2018 Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at Augusta National,
had 13 pars and made birdies on the seventh and 16th holes.
Mary Grace Dunigan of Kennett Square had three birdies on
the front nine and two more on the incoming nine as she carded a solid 76 to
claim runnerup honors. Dunigan was the runnerup in the Women’s Golf Association
of Philadelphia’s Junior Girls’ Championship earlier this month.
Kayla Maletto of Sinking Spring had 10 pars on her scorecard
in an 85 that left her alone in third place. Emma Reilly of Doylestown took
fourth with an 87 and Ava Lichok, a freshman on the Downingtown East team that
was the PIAA Class AAA runnerup last fall, was fifth with an 89.
Avery McCrery of Wilmington, Del. finished sixth with a 93
and Mia Pace of Exton was seventh with a 94.
Nimah Narinesingh-Smith of Kennett Square had six pars and a
birdie on the ninth hole to card an 88 that gave her the top spot in the
16-to-18 division.
Episcopal Academy junior Kathleen Mark had three pars as she
finished just a shot behind Narinesingh-Smith in second with an 89. Mark helped
the Churchwomen claim their second straight Inter-Ac League title and capped
her sophomore campaign this spring by finishing in a tie for fourth in the
Inter-Ac Championship.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. took third place with a 92
and Harriton junior Niosha Parvizi was fourth with a 96.
Sean Curran of Newtown Square and Samuel Feeney of West
Chester shared first place in the coed 12-and-under division as each carded a
9-over 45 for nine holes. Curran’s round included three straight pars and a
birdie on the 16th hole while Feeney’s steady round was highlighted
by back-to-back pars on the 12th and 13th holes.
Jax Puskar of Kennett Square opened his round with four
straight pars on his way to a 46 that left him alone in third place.
Jason DiRita of Media and Lawson Leeper of York shared
fourth place, each carding a 46. Davis Conaway took sixth place with a 49.
Ravi Khanna of Bryn Mawr finished seventh with a 53,
Nicholas Shanahan of Devon was eighth with a 54 and Emily Mayo of Boothwyn was
ninth with a 63.
