Recent Radnor High graduate Brynn Walker, a two-time PIAA
Class AAA champion, continued to prepare for her U.S. Women’s Amateur
qualifying bid at one of her favorite summertime junior stops, the American
Junior Golf Association’s Rolex Girls Junior Championship.
Walker, coming off her first try at an LPGA event, the
ShopRite LPGA Classic at the Jersey Shore, had rounds of 75, 81, 77 and 75 over
The Country Club of Rochester course, a 6,302-yard, par-70 layout in Rochester,
N.Y. for a 308 total that left her in a tie for 36th.
The title went to Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, N.C., who opened
with an even-par 70 on her way to an 8-over 288 total that gave her a two-shot
edge on the elite field. Kim, a three-time Rolex Junior All-American, added
rounds of 72 and 74 and finished up with a 72.
Chapel Hill, by the way, is the destination late this summer
for Walker, who will play collegiately at the University of North Carolina.
The runnerup in the Rolex was Emilia Migliaccio of Cary,
N.C., who closed strong with a brilliant final-round 66. Migliaccio’s earlier
rounds were 77, 75 and 72 as she finished at 10-over 290.
