St. Joseph’s Prep sophomore Gregory Kriz, Jack Luterman, a sophomore at The Haverford School, and Jimmy Warmkessel of Malvern proved they could take the heat as each matched par with a 70 at Skippack Golf Club to share first place in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Thursday.
Kriz, an Oreland resident, made birdies at the second, fourth, 11th, 12th and 16th holes and had eight pars on his scorecard. The three birdies on the incoming nine at Skippack, on the edge of Evansburg State Park in western Montgomery County, enabled Kirz to tour that side in 2-under 33.
Luterman, an Ardmore resident, made birdies on the second and fourth holes and had 14 pars on his card, matching the card on Skippack’s incoming nine with nine straight pars.
Warmkessel made birdies at the fourth, 12th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes and had eight pars on his card. With four birdies on the back nine at Skippack, Warmkessel finished strong with a 3-under 32 on that side.
William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr finished in fourth place, five shots behind the trio at the top, with a 5-over 75. Ty Sheftic, a sophomore on the Wissahickon golf team, finished a shot behind Quartermain in fifth place with a 76.
The trio of Henry Sokol of Villanova, Chase Andrews of Harleysville and William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr shared sixth place, each tallying a 77.
Gus Stoltzfus, a sophomore on the Avon Grove golf team, finished alone in ninth place with a 78.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division was the trio of Sebastian Park of Lansdale, Michael Bonczak of Fort Washington and Lorenzo Viterbo of Landenberg as they finished in a tie for 10th place, each recording a 79.
There was a three-way tie at the top in the 16-to-18 division as well as William Shuford, a Malvern Prep junior, Lansdale Catholic senior Sean Mariano and Boyertown senior Chase Dillman each signed for a 2-over 72.
Shuford, a Wayne resident, made birdies at the ninth and 16th holes and had 12 pars on his scorecard, including five straight pars from the fourth through the eighth holes.
Mariano made a birdie at the 16th hole and had 14 pars on his card, including a run of seven straight pars from the sixth through the 12th holes.
Dillman made birdies at the fourth and 12th holes and had 12 pars on his card, including five in a row from the sixth through the 10th holes.
Michael Reardon of Springfield and Isaac Birdsong of King of Prussia finished a shot behind the trio at the top as they finished in a tie for fourth place, each posting a 3-over 73.
Ian Yoo of Blue Bell took sixth place with a 75 and Ethan Cenci of Furlong finished seventh with a 78.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was the trio of Justin Marcus of Glenmoore, Bryce Ciochetto of Havertown and Diego Yanez of Ambler, as they finished in a tie for eighth place, each landing on 79.
Jewel Schaefer, gearing up for her senior season at Mount St. Joseph, earned a victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with a solid 5-over 76.
Schaefer, a Jamison resident, made birdies on the 14th and 16th holes and had eight pars on her scorecard. Her two birdies on the incoming nine at Skippack enabled Schaefer to finish strong with a 1-under 34 on that side.
Conestoga junior Suri Ahn made birdies on the 16th and 18th holes and had two pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with an 80 that left her four shots behind Schaefer. Ahn was a member of the Pioneers’ District One Class AAA championship team last fall.
Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Fortress Chryst of Wescosville as she recorded 102 to finish in third place.
Perkiomen Valley sophomore Saloni Patel matched Schaefer’s 5-over 76 in finishing at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division. Patel’s steady round included a birdie at the second hole and 10 pars.
Zuzu Connolly of Wilmington, Del. was right on Patel’s heels as she made a birdie on the ninth hole and had nine pars on her scorecard as she earned runnerup honors with an 8-over 79.
Alexa Shure of Malvern rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she had four pars on her card, all of them on the incoming nine at Skippack, as she finished in third place with a 94.
Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg made a birdie on the second hole and had five pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 3-over 38.
Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr made an eagle on the par-5 second hole and had three pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Thomas in second place with a 4-over 39.
Eric Cunningham of Wayne made a birdie on the seventh hole and had five pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Gilbert in third place with a 40.
Bryce Bussom of Lewisburg took fourth place with a 43, Bobby Stefanski of Newtown Square was fifth with a 44 and Samuel Karas of Blue Bell and Nolan English of Villanova finished in a tie for sixth, each signing for a 47.
Baylor Keim of Blue Bell took eighth place with a 48 and a couple of Harleysville guys, Carson McNamee and Michael Menichello, rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as they finished in a tie for ninth, each registering a 50.
