Team Debusschere comes away from Junior Tour stop at Linwood with a pair of victories

Only two boys broke 80 in the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at the challenging Linwood Country Club in Linwood, N.J. and both were named Debusschere.

The brothers who helped Strath Haven win the first Central League crown in program history a year ago, Jackson Debusschere, a senior, and Tyler Debusschere, a sophomore, captured top honors in the 16-to-18 division and the 13-to-16 division, respectively, in cloudy, but summery weather Sunday.

For Jackson Debusschere, the victory completed a weekend sweep of the two Junior Tour stops, Saturday at The Bucks Club and Sunday at Linwood, where he carded a 6-over-par 76.

Much like his victory Saturday at The Bucks Club, Jackson Debusschere got it going early, making three birdies on the front nine and another on the back nine over the 6,204-yard, par-70 Linwood layout.

The only other sub-80 round at Linwood Sunday was recorded by Tyler Debuschere, who went 1-under on the front nine and made four pars on the back nine on his way to a 7-over 77 that bested the 13-to-15 field.

Pretty sure the Central League will put together enough multiple-team matches this week to get its top two finishers eligible for the team competition at next week’s District One Class AAA Championship at Turtle Creek Golf Club. The league will also have to conduct a championship/District One qualifier to figure out which individuals will compete at the Turtle next week.

However it works itself out, it appears the Debusschere brothers are ready to go.

Matthew Van Istandel of Haddon Heights, N.J. birdied the 10th hole as he earned runnerup honors in the 16-to-18 division, finishing five shots behind Jackson Debusschere with an 81.

A couple of guys playing close to their Linwood homes, Evan Goldberg and Riley Mostecki, finished in third and fourth place, respectively. Goldberg made a birdie on the 508-yard, par-5 12th hole on is way to an 82 and Mostecki signed for an 84. Joseph Fargnoli of Mickelton, N.J. took fifth place with an 87.

Cole Apeldorn of Southampton and Jacob Brady of Newark, Del. shared sixth place, each carding an 88. Caden Quinn of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in eighth place with a 106.

Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. was the runnerup to Tyler Debusschere in the 13-to-15 division as he had a birdie on his scorecard on his way to an 82. Jack Chodowski of Bryn Mawr and Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. finished in a tie for third place, each registering an 85. Hunter Probst of Bear Creek finished alone in fifth place with an 87.

Hank Kancher of Philadelphia, moving up from the coed 12-and-under nine-holers, came in with an 88 and shared sixth place with Daniel Herzchel, another entry out of Linwood, N.J.

Zachary Freed, another Linwood resident who had a short ride to this Junior Tour stop, shared eighth place with Andrew Zeig of Kennett Square as each came in with a 92. Jackson Barnes of Marmora, N.J. rounded out the top 10 among the younger guys as he finished alone in 10th place with a 94.

The best score of the day among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Julia McCloskey of Princeton Junction, N.J. had four pars on her way to a 91 that gave her medalist honors. Savannah Thompson of Seaville, N.J. had three pars, two on the front nine and one on the back, as she finished in second place with a 100.

Mary Emma Guld of West Chester had three pars as she posted a 94 that gave her the top spot in the 16-to-18 division. Sophia Chesner of Moorestown, N.J. earned runnerup honors with a 105 that included a par at the 140-yard, par-3 16th hole.

Like Jackson Debusschere, Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. bested the field of nine-holers with an 8-over 42, giving him a sweep of the weekend Junior Tour stops as he added a victory Sunday to his win Saturday at The Bucks Club. Sieben birdied the 302-yard, par-4 seventh hole on his way to the victory.

Keller Tannehill of Margate, N.J. had three pars and closed his round with a birdie as he earned runnerup honors with a solid 45. Declan Conner of Swarthmore and Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. finished in a tie for third place, each carding a 46.

Benjamin Mayer of Garnet Valley took fifth place with a 50, Nicholas Fargnoli of Team Fargnoli of Mickelton, N.J. was sixth with a 51 and Jameson Foreman of Somers Point, N.J. was seventh with a 61.

Anthony Beach of Westville, N.J. finished in eighth place with a 63 and Emma DiPatri of Franklinville, N.J. rounded out the coed 12-and-und-under field with a 67 that left her alone in ninth place.
