Boyertown senior John Engle carded a 2-over-par 72 at The Club at Shannondell in Audubon to cruise to a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Saturday.
In fall-like conditions, Engle, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier a year ago, had four birdies, two on each side on the par-70 Shannondell layout, to finish five shots clear of the rest of the older guys.
Pope John Paul II junior Paul Brady, the reigning District One Class AA champion, and Central Bucks South’s Will Locovare shared second place, each posting a 7-over 77. Charlie Kerprich of Dresher and Ryan Garvey of Media finished in a tie for fourth place, each signing for a 78.
Nicholas DiPinto of Broomall finished alone in sixth place with a 70 and Victor Mominey of Spring City and Dylan Gute of Chester Springs were another shot behind DiPinto in a tie for seventh place as each registered an 80. Gute was coming off a share of first place in last week’s Philly Junior Tour stop at Odessa National Golf Club in Townsend, Del.
Downingtown East junior Jake Leon finished alone in ninth place with an 81 and Radnor junior Chase Stephano rounded out the top 10 as he ended up in 10th place with an 82.
Zachary Antao of Chadds Ford had three birdies on his scorecard as he posted the second-best score of the day among the boys with a 4-over 74 that left him alone atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division.
Noah Wallace of Elkton, Md. was the runnerup among the younger guys with a 79 and Sachin Blake of Berwyn and Ethan Martin of North Wales finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 81.
Jake Micewski of Broomall, Quinton Heljenek of Glenside and Luke Fazio of Schwenksville shared fifth place, each posting an 82. Brendan Reilly of Doylestown, Dylan Ramsey of Lebanon and Nicolas Zimmerman of Phoenixville rounded out the top 10 as they finished in a tie for eighth place, each carding an 84.
The best score of the day among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 age group as Kayley Roberts of Phoenixville finished up the back nine with two straight pars on her way to an 85 that gave her the victory. Kayley Roberts had seven pars overall on her scorecard.
Audrey Reese of Richboro birdied the 17th hole on her way to an 88 that gave her runnerup honors in the division. Kate Roberts gave Phoenixville’s Team Roberts two of the top three finishers as she took third place with an 89, a shot behind Reese.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy senior Emma Schotsch carded a 95 to top the field in the 16-to-18 division, her second win in the wraparound 2020-2021 season. Schotsch captured the top spot among the older girls in last Sunday’s Philly Junior Tour stop at Kimberton Golf Club.
Silvana Gonzalez of Exton was the runnerup in the division with a 98 and Elizabeth O’Connell finished third with a 109.
Lannon Boyd of Radnor birdied the seventh hole as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 5-over 40 and earned his first Philly Junior Tour victory. Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap was a shot behind Boyd in second place with a solid 6-over 41.
Delcan Conner of Swarthmore, David Nissen of Lower Gwynedd and Daniel Rozinsky of Newtown each signed for a 43 to end up in a tie for third place. Lawson Leeper of York took sixth place with a 44 and Colby Komancheck of Royersford made it seven players in the coed 12-and-under division breaking 50 at Shannondell as he posted a 47 to finish seventh.
Cayden Cubbin of Gilbertsville and Nathan Lobo of Collegeville shared eighth place, each registering a 51. Chase Mitstifer of Sinking Spring and Avery O’Neill of Romansville rounded out the top 10 as they both carded a 53 to end up in a tie for 10th place.
