Cole Apeldorn of Southampton posted a solid 5-over-par 74 to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Sunday at Middletown Country Club in Langhorne, Bucks County.
On another sun-splashed, fall-like day, Apeldorn had three birdies on his scorecard to beat Radnor High senior Tyler Tornoe, a District One Class AAA qualifier a year ago, by two shots for medalist honors. Tornoe also had three birdies in earning runnerup honors with a 76 on the par-69 Middletown layout.
Malvern Prep senior Dimitri Collias, a King of Prussia resident, was another four shots behind Tornoe in third place with an 80. Bishop Shanahan sophomore Benjamin Saggers took fourth place with an 81 and Stephen Cain of Yardley was fifth with an 82.
Matthew Van Istendal of Haddon Heights, N.J. and Adam MacMillan shared sixth place, each landing on 84. Kyle Mauro of Paoli took eighth place with an 88.
Thomas King of Hockessin, Del. finished in ninth place with a 90 and Nicholas DiPinto of Broomall rounded out the top 10 as he carded a 91 to finish alone in 10th place.
Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J. had four birdies, two on each side, as he registered an 8-over 77 to take the top spot in the 13-to-15 age group. Rajan Khanna of Bryn Mawr birdied the ninth hole on his way to an 86 that earned him a second-place finish.
Tyler Homka of Bensalem took third place with an 87 and Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J. and Andrew Todd of Newtown shared fourth place, each signing for a 90.
Darius Laws of Wilmington, Del. and Jack Mascolo of Doylestown finished in a tie for sixth place, each carding a 91. Kevin Zheng of Warren, N.J. took eighth place with a 92.
Thomas Wen of Basking Ridge, N.J. finished in ninth place with a 95 and Jacob Reibstein of Huntingdon Valley rounded out the top 10 as he posted a 105 to finish alone in 10th place.
Mary Emma Guldi of West Chester was the lone entrant in the girls 16-to-18 division and her 90 was the best score among the girls who teed it up at Middletown. Guldi had pars on the first and 18th holes and three other pars in between on her scorecard.
Elle Overly of Lititz birdied the 11th hole as she carded a 91 to finish atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division.
Alessia Dematteo of Gladwyne and Sophie Branca of Warrington shared runnerup honors as each posted a 101. Emerson Pauletta of Allentown, N.J. rounded out the 13-to-15 field as she finished in fourth place with a 111.
Logan Cassidy of Bensalem bested the field of nine-holers with a 5-over 40 that included a run of four straight pars. William Johnson of Berwyn birdied the fifth hole as he settled for second place, a shot behind Cassidy with a 6-over 41.
Savannah Laverty of Moorestown, N.J. was another shot behind Johnson in third place with a 42. Jason Mack of Delaware Water Gap and Lawson Leeper of York finished in a tie for fourth place, each registering a 44.
Ravi Khanna, a member of Bryn Mawr’s Team Khanna, and Cameron Peffel of Fleetwood finished in a tie for sixth place, each carding a 46. Quin Zuegner of New Hope made it eight players in the coed 12-and-under division breaking 50 as he finished alone in eighth place with a 48.
Alexander Gibbs of East Norriton took ninth place with a solid 50 and Lily Kochersperger of Kennett Square rounded out the top 10 as she finished alone in 10th place with a 51.
