With Tyler Zimmer again leading the way, The Haverford
School recorded its second straight sweep of an Inter-Ac League invitational
Tuesday, this one hosted by Germantown Academy at Bluestone Country Club.
Zimmer fired a 35 as the Fords put up a solid 190 total.
Malvern Prep took runnerup honors at 198, Episcopal Academy was third at 208,
the host Patriots finished fourth at 212, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy was
fifth at 215 and Penn Charter was sixth with a 227 total.
The Haverford School ran the table in the Inter-Ac last
fall, sweeping all six invitationals for a 30-0-0 record. With two straight
sweeps to open this season, the Fords have swept at least the last eight
invitationals, no easy feat in the competitive Inter-Ac.
Junior Jake Maddaloni, who played a key role in a senior-laden
Haverford School team’s run to the Inter-Ac title a year ago, added a 36 at
Bluestone. Alec Stern carded a 38, making the Fords the only team to have three
players record sub-40 rounds.
Michael Bozzi added a 40 and the last counter for the Fords
was a 41, a total landed on by both senior Charlie Baker and Bowen Deng.
Malvern Prep was led by James Gradisek and Henry Fish, both
of who carded a solid 38. I’ve caddied in a group that Gradisek played in at
Stonewall and the kid definitely has some talent. Sophomore Keller Mulhern and senior
Ryan Kennedy each carded a 40. The fifth counter for the Friars was a 41, a
figure that both Ryan Traynor and Jack Fialko posted.
Episcopal Academy was led by eighth-grader Jack Early, who
carded a 39. Juniors Shane Lawler and Giles Elliott posted respective rounds of
41 and 42. Rounding out the counters for the Churchmen were a pair of 43s
registered by senior co-captain Jacob Zeng and sophomore Eric Morgan. Zeng was
the top performer in the six regular-season invitationals a year ago, putting
up the best record against the rest of the league.
Penn Charter got a solid showing from its top player, junior
Patrick Isztwan, who signed for a solid 38. Isztwan was the Inter-Ac’s individual
champion, capturing the Bert Linton Memorial on his home course at Huntingdon
Valley Country Club, as a freshman in the fall of 2017.
