The high school postseason is rapidly approaching and it
looks like the game of Spring-Ford junior Luke Watson is more than ready for
it.
Watson reached the Class AAA East Regional at Golden Oaks
Golf Club a year ago, but couldn’t take the final step to get to the PIAA
Championship.
In a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at the Union
League National Golf Club at the Jersey Shore Sunday, Watson ripped off six
birdies in a 5-under-par 67 that easily gave him the victory in the 16-to-18
division.
Three of Watson’s six birdies came in succession at the 12th,
13th and 14th holes at the 6,944-yard, par-72 Union
League National layout, the old Sand Barrens before the Union League took over.
Holy Ghost Prep sophomore Calen Sanderson and Eric Miller of
West Chester shared runnerup honors as each carded a 1-over 73.
James Dalzell of Linwood, N.J. took fourth place with a
3-over 75, P.J. Schulte, playing close to his Cape May Court House, N.J. home,
was fifth with a 76 and Christopher Waldmann of Malvern was sixth with a 77.
La Salle senior Steve Lorenzo, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier a
year ago, and Jack Ross of Medford Lakes, N.J. finished in a tie for seventh,
each posting a 79. Rounding out the top 10 were two players, Will Hage of
Chadds Ford and Tyler Peters of Berlin, N.J., who ended up in a tie for ninth,
each signing for an 80.
Radnor High junior Rishi Khanna made birdie on the sixth
hole on his way to a 7-over 79 that earned him top honors in the 13-to-15
division. Daniel Shin of Horsham had two birdies, one on each side, as he
claimed runnerup honors with an 82.

Kennett Square was fifth with a 93.
Another member of Bryn Mawr’s Team Khanna, Rajan Khanna,
took sixth place with a 98 and Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J., stepping up
from the 12-and-under nine-holers, was seventh with a 101.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. birdied the fifth hole on
her way to an 80 that left her atop the leaderboard in the girls 16-to-18
division.

and 13th holes as she earned runnerup honors with an 84. Episcopal
Academy junior Kathleen Mark, who helped the Churchwomen make their second
straight perfect run through the Inter-Ac League last spring, finished in third
place with a 91.
Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. was the winner in the
13-to-15 division as she also registered a birdie at the fifth hole on her way
to a 94. Ava Hneleski of Springfield was a shot behind Bunch in second place
with a 94.

shared third place with Matthew Sanderson of Newtown’s Team Sanderson as each
