Rain forced the cancellation of the second round of the Navy
Fall Classic Monday and the results of Sunday’s first round will stand as
final.
That meant a third-place finish for Saint Joseph’s Ross
Pilliod, a sophomore out of Berks Catholic and an occasional Stonewall caddy
this summer. Pilliod carded a 1-under 70 over the Naval Academy Golf Club
layout Sunday and shared third with five other players. He led the Hawks to a
10th-place finish in the team standings at 13-over 297.
The co-medalists were Navy’s senior captain Connor Tottman
of Lake Oswego, Ore. and Lafayette freshman Reid Bedell, both of whom carded a
3-under 68. A week earlier Bedell fell in a playoff to Saint Joseph’s freshman
Michael O’Brien for the individual title at the Bucknell Invitational, so he’s off
to solid start to his career with the Leopards.
Wagner’s 1-under 283 team total that gave it the first-round
lead held up for the team title. The Seahawks were led by Nicholas Masshafen, a
junior from Fairport, N.Y. Hasshafen was in the group of six players tied for
third at 1-under 70.
Robert Morris finished second 4-over 288, California (Pa.)
was third at 290 and host Navy, Delaware and Drexel finished in a tie for
fourth at 293.
