The Inter-Ac League held the first of its six
mini-tournaments Wednesday with reigning league champion Malvern Prep playing
host at the par-35 Waynesborough Country Club.
But it was Haverford School, looking intent on getting back
on top in the Inter-Ac, that cruised to a 5-0 day with a 221 total. The Fords
were led by Peter Garno and Mac Costin, two of the day’s three co-medalists, both
of whom carded a 1-under 34.
The host Friars edged out Episcopal Academy for second with
a 230 total. Episcopal Academy was a shot back in third at 231, Penn Charter
was fourth, another shot back at 232, Germantown Academy was fifth at 257 and
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy was sixth at 270.
Malvern Prep was led by reigning Pennsylvania Junior Boys
champion John Updike, who carded a 1-over 36. Matt Davis, Matt Civitella and
Griffin Kennedy all posted 38s and Kevin Hagan also broke 40 with a 39.
Episcopal Academy was led by sophomore Michael Zeng, who
posted a 34 to share medalist honors with Garno and Costin. Zeng’s brother
Jacob, a freshman, and junior Cole Kemmerer both came in at 38 and junior
Ashton Dunn had a 39 for the Churchmen.
Springside Chestnut Hill will play host to the next Inter-Ac
Invitational Monday at Sunnybrook Golf Club.
