Wager-Olsen, Kim-Watson pairs share top spot in Junior Fourball Championship at Saucon Valley

The Central Pennsylvania pair of Maxwell Wager and John Olsen and the Royersford duo of Noah Kim and Luke Watson each got a piece of the title in the 16-to-18 division in the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour’s Junior Fourball Championship held Tuesday at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem.
Wager of State College and Olsen of Boalsburg had seven birdies on their scorecard in the better-ball-of-partners format and Kim and Watson, one of the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s top returning seniors at Spring-Ford, had six birdies on their card as each team carded a 5-under-par 67.
Elijah Rupert, who finished in a tie for third place in the PIAA Class AA Championship as a junior at Brandywine Heights last fall, and fellow Berks Countian, Colton Yenser of Douglassville, finished alone in third place with a solid 4-under 68. Rupert and Yenser got off to a fast start with birdies at the first two holes.
The Clarks Summit pair of Matt Trassler and Andrew Maddock and Thomas Lynch of Dunmore and Logan Paczewski, who finished in eighth place in the PIAA Class AAA Championship as a sophomore at Dallas last fall, shared fourth place, each team posting a 2-under 70.
It was another shot back to Central Bucks West teammates Nicholas Hano and Kevin Lydon as they finished alone in sixth place at 2-under 70.
Luke Marvin, who captured the Bert Linton Inter-Ac League individual title last fall at Gulph Mills Golf Club as a junior at Germantown Academy, and fellow Ambler resident Jack Luvano and Michael Lynch III of Dunmore and his partner, Michael Sewack of Scranton, finished in a tie for seventh place as each team matched par with a 72.
Rounding out the top 10 were two teams tied for ninth place at 2-over 74, including the Wilmington, Del. duo of Tommy Ciconte and Anthony Ciconte and Eli Shah of Newtown Square and Corey Anderson of Media.
Tatnall School sophomores Jeffrey Homer and Matthew Homer combined for three birdies on the front nine as they matched the best score among the older guys, a 5-under 67, to finish atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division.
A run of three straight birdies propelled Nathan Guertler of Merchantville, N.J. and Matthew Normand of Lumberton, N.J. to a 4-under 68 as the claimed runnerup honors in the younger group.
Evan Eichenlaub, playing not far from his Bethlehem home, and Thomas Young of Center Valley got off to a fast start with a birdie at the first hole as they teamed up on a 2-under 70 that left them alone in third place.
Athen Sachar of York and Condon Blanchette of Manchester and Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell and Travis Robertson of Fort Washington each teamed up to post an even par 70 and finish in a tie for fourth place.
The Berwyn pair of Sachin Blake and Rich Biborosch finished alone in sixth place as they put together a 1-over 73.
The youngest of the Homer crew, Jack Homer, and another member of Team Ciconte, Joseph Cinconte, out of Wilmington, Del. and Scott Hughes of Ambler and Will Huntley of Lansdale finished in a tie for seventh place at 2-over 74.
Justin Edwards of Northamton and Trent Moyer of Walnutport took ninth place with a 6-over 78. Rounding out the top 10 was the tandem of Shaun Mazzalupi of Wayne and Grayson Wingerter of Villanova as they combined for a 79 that left them alone in 10th place.
Kathleen Mark, who lost her junior season at Episcopal Academy to the coronavirus pandemic this spring, and Sophia Brubaker, a District One Class AAA qualifier as a sophomore at Conestoga last fall, joined forces to win the girls 16-to-18 division with an 8-over 80. Mark and Brubaker were particularly solid on the back nine with six pars.
Gwenaelle DeLeo of Lititz and Caroline Gola, who helped Mount St. Joseph capture the PIAA Class AAA team crown as a sophomore last fall, finished four shots behind Mark and Brubaker in second place with an 84. DeLeo and Gola had a run of three straight pars at the 13th, 14th and 15th holes.
Sofia Gambone of Worcester and Reilly Kelley of Meadowbrook finished their round with a birdie on the 18th hole as they teamed up to finish in third place with a 90.
Emily Mayo of Boothwyn and Elisabeth Kehagias of Wilmington, Del. finished atop the 13-to-15 leaderboard with a 93 that included three pars.
Garbrielle Courtney of Lafayette Hill and Mollie Young of Glenside earned runnerup honors with a 97, finishing up with a solid 46 on the back nine.
