Grayson Throm of Delmar, Del. blitzed Bear Trap Dunes’ Grizzly and Kodiak nines in Ocean View, Del. with a sparkling 3-under-par 69 to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division Aug. 3rd.
Throm made a birdie at the ninth hole that set the stage for some serious fireworks on the incoming nine as he added a birdie at 14 and then went back-to-back with birdies at 16 and 17 while carding a 3-under 33 on his back nine.
Throm also had 13 pars on his scorecard, opening his round with seven consecutive pars.
Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. made birdies at the second, 13th and 16th holes and had nine pars on his card, including four straight from three through six, to earn runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 4-over 76.
Patrick Thomas of Hockessin, Del. had 13 pars on his card, including a string of five straight pars from the ninth through the 13th holes as he finished in third place with a 77, a shot behind Sears.
Adrian Santiago of Millsboro, Del. took fourth place with an 85, Mason Hall of White Hall, Md. was fifth with an 89, Charlie Wei of Cochranville was sixth with a 90 and Luke Peyton of Frankford, Del. was seventh with a 91.
Carter Tracy of Smyrna, Del. took eighth place with a 95 and Brendan Wik of Berwyn rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as he finished ninth with a 119.
Garnet Valley senior Jack Ferm, a District One Class AAA qualifier a year ago, made birdies at the fourth and seventh holes, went back-to-back with birdies at 11 and 12 and had eight pars on his scorecard as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division with a 2-over 74.
Ferm matched par on his front nine with a 36.
Grady Rupe, a senior on the Perkiomen Valley golf team, and Hayden Bartie, a junior on the Southern Lehigh golf team, shared second place, each ending up a shot behind Ferm with a 3-over 75.
Rupe, coming off a Philly Junior Tour victory the previous week at Meadia Heights Golf Club, made a birdie at the 16th hole and had 14 pars on his card, opening his round with five straight pars.
Bartie made birdies at the second, eighth, 10th and 17th holes and had eight pars on his card.
Ryan Bechtel of Cherry Hill, N.J. took fourth place with a 76 and Drake Brogan of Ocean View, N.J. and Joey Higgins, a senior on the golf team at reigning Public League champion Philadelphia Academy Charter, shared fifth, each recording a 77.
Chase Schmidt of Waterford, N.J. took seventh place with a 78, Chris Cipollone, who wrapped up his scholastic career at Haverford High last fall, was eighth with a 79 and Ben Fifer of Wyoming, Del. was ninth with an 80.
Liam Kirk of Mickleton, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in 10th place with an 81.
Gabrielle Hamstead, a sophomore on the Cape Henlopen golf team, made birdies at the third and eighth holes and had eight pars on her scorecard, including four consecutive pars from 11 through 14, as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 16-to-18 division with an 80.
Ellie Walls, who capped her sophomore season at Indian River by finishing in third place in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Championship at Baywood Greens in May, made a birdie at the 12th hole and had eight pars on her card, finishing up her round with pars at 16, 17 and 18, as she earned runnerup honors with an 84.
Emmerson Gleber, a senior on the golf team at the Charter School of Wilmington, had four pars on her card, three of them on her incoming nine, as she finished in third place with a 91.
Sommer Baker, a junior on the West Chester Henderson golf team, rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as she finished in fourth place with a 108.
Tyler Drinker of West Chester was the lone entry in the boys 12-and-under division and he made pars at third and ninth holes on his way to an 8-over 44.
