Nathan Smith of Chestertown, Md. had a steady round of 3-over-par 74 at Rancocas Golf Club in Willingboro, N.J. June 11th to claim a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour win in the 16-to-18 division.
Smith had 15 pars on his scorecard, opening his round with six straight pars and finishing his round with eight straight pars.
Anthony Manzi, a junior at Salesianum from Aston, made a birdie at the ninth hole and finished with a flourish with an eagle at the par-5 18th as he earned runnerup honors among the older guys with a 5-over 76. Manzi, who helped the Sallies finish in a tie for fourth place in last month’s Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Championship at Maple Dale Country Club, also had nine pars on his card.
William Savarese of Narberth and Michael Doyle of Haddonfield, N.J. finished in a tie for third place in the 16-to-18 division, each posting an 81.
Savarese had 10 pars on his card while Doyle made birdies at the sixth and 17th holes and had seven pars on his card.
Devin Carpenter of Philadelphia took fifth place with an 83, Harriton junior Carson Deringer was sixth with an 85 and Lucas Zhang of Yardley and Tre Lesperance of Chadds Ford finished in a tie for seventh, each signing for an 86.
Christopher Pullano of Wynnewood took ninth place with an 87 and Archmere Academy junior Michael Liu rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished alone in 10th with an 88. Liu helped the Auks capture the DIAA team crown last month at Maple Dale to wrap up his sophomore season.
Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J., the Player of the Year in 2023 in the 13-to-15 division, made birdies at the 10th, 13th and 18th holes and had seven pars on his scorecard as he bested the field in the 13-to-15 division with a 6-over 77.
There was a talented group a year ago in the coed 12-and-under division and several of those players have moved up from nine holes to 18 holes. One of them is Henry Sokol of Villanova and he had 10 pars on his card to finish two shots behind Sieben in second place among the younger guys with a 79.
Haverford School sophomore Jack Luterman of Ardmore and Quin Zuegner of New Hope finished in a tie for third place, each recording an 80. Luterman made a birdie on the 14th hole and had eight pars on his card. Zuegner made a birdie at the 15th hole and had seven pars on his card.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr took fifth place with an 83, Gus Wolfe of Downingtown was sixth with an 87 and Chase Baker of Huntingdon Valley and Luke Bergin of Wayne finished in a tie for seventh, each posting an 89.
A couple more of those standout nine-holers from a year ago who graduated to the 13-to-15 division rounded out the top 10 as Rayan Shah of Newtown took ninth place with a 90 and Henry Sokol’s twin brother Jack Sokol was 10th with a 93.
The best score among the girls emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Adriana Saravalli of Philadelphia had eight pars on her scorecard on her way to an 85.
Gabrielle Kim of Ambler made pars on the fifth and 18th holes as she earned runnerup honors with a 101.
Gabriella Magno of Delran, N.J. rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she made pars on the second and 10th holes to finish in third place with a 114.
Another member of Team Magno out of Delran, N.J., Isabella Magno, was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and she made a birdie at the 12th hole and had two pars on her scorecard to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 98.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. made a birdie on the seventh hole and added par at two as he topped the field of nine-holers with a 7-over 42.
Benjamin Adkins of Lewes, Del. had three pars on his scorecard as he earned runnerup honors with a 45 and Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg also had three pars on his card to finish in third place with a 46.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. took fourth place with a 50, Samuel Karas of Blue Bell was fifth with a 52 and Jack Gilbert of Bryn Mawr was sixth with a 53.
Rounding out the field in the coed 12-and-under division was Ryan Wilkin of Malvern as he finished in seventh place with a 61.
