Ryan Thomas of Shrewsbury posted a solid 9-over-par 81 to top the field in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Tuesday at Plantation Lakes Golf & Country Club in Millsboro, Del.
Shrewsbury made birdies at the fifth, seventh and 13th holes as well as one more at the par-5 18th hole and had four pars on his scorecard. He bested a small field as the Philly Junior Tour had another stop going on at Indian Valley Country Club, 145 miles or so north of Plantation Lakes, which is in southern Delaware.
Jake Johnson of Wayne opened his round with a birdie at the first hole and had five pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with an 87. Brandon Esposito of Avondale had seven pars on his card as he took third place with a 92.
Rounding out the field in the 16-to-18 division was Noah Richardson of Malvern as he finished in fourth place with a 107.
Jake Hollerback, playing close to his Millsboro, Del. home, was the lone entry in the 13-to-15 division and claimed a victory with an 86. Hollerback’s round was highlighted by a birdie at the eighth hole and eight pars.
The best score of the day among the girls came out of the 13-to-15 division as Giulia Weisser of Reading had five pars on her scorecard, including four straight to close out the front nine at the Plantation Lakes layout, as she claimed a win with a 93.
Kaitlynne Simmons of Townsend, Del. made a birdie at the 11th hole and had four pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors, two shots behind Weisser with a 95. Kyla Quimby of West Lawn made a birdie on the fourth hole while recording a 107 as she finished in third place with a 107.
Maia Alinskas, another player teeing it up not far from her Millsboro, Del. home, rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in fourth place with a 122.
Geneva Merino of York was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division field and captured a Junior Tour victory with a 112.
Chloe Donohue of Moorestown, N.J. bested a short field of nine-holers as she made a birdie at the eighth hole and had two pars on her scorecard on her way to a 52.
Cian Mahoney of Middletown, Del. rounded out the coed 12-and-under field with a 57 and a runnerup finish.
