Lucas Steinmetz, a junior at The Hill School, overcame some rainy conditions to post a 1-over-par 73 at Indian Valley Country Club in Telford to finish atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division of a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour event Tuesday.
Steinmetz, the son of Spring Ford Country Club head pro Rich Steinmetz, had birdies at the third, eighth and 17th holes and made seven of his 12 pars on the incoming nine at Indian Valley on his way to the victory.
Dylan Gute, a recent Downingtown East graduate, had birdies at the 10th and 12th holes and recorded 12 pars to earn runnerup honors with a 3-over 75. Joe Halferty of Blue Bell made a birdie at the 12th hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard as he ended up in third place with a 78.
Charlie Kerprich of Dresher took fourth place with a 79, Brady Manning of Downingtown was fifth with an 80, Charles Ota, another Blue Bell entry, was sixth with an 81 and Alexander McCauley of Maple Glen was seventh with an 82.
Henry Gowen of Berwyn and Michael Fisher of Philadelphia finished in a tie for eighth place, each landing on 83. Jeffrey Seiler of Hatfield rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he carded an 85 to end up alone in 10th place.
Nick Joyce of Quakertown didn’t let the difficult conditions bother him either as he matched Steinmetz for the low round of the day with a 1-over 73 that gave him a victory in the 13-to-15 division. Nick Joyce had birdies at the third, eighth and 12th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard.
Ethan Martin of North Wales finished a shot behind Nick Joyce in second place with a 2-over 74 that featured birdies at the third, seventh and 16th holes and 10 pars. Noah Wallace of Elkton, Md. birdied the first hole and registered 11 pars as he took third place with a 79.
Shaun Mazzalupi of Wayne took fourth place with an 80, Nolan Corcoran of Lansdale was fifth with an 82 and Cole Coffey of Fort Washington was sixth with an 84.
Erik Harken of Spring City and Ghon Repae of Blue Bell shared seventh place, each signing for an 85. Grayson Wingerter of Villanova was ninth with an 86 and Darin Carpenter of Philadelphia rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division with an 87 that left him alone in 10th.
The best score of the day among the girls came from Quakertown’s Team Joyce and out of the 13-to-15 division as Rachel Joyce made birdies at the third, 12th and 15th holes and had six pars on her scorecard on her way to a solid 7-over 79 that enabled her to top the field among the younger girls.
Spring-Ford junior Morgan Kunze birdied the 10th hole and registered a pair of pars as she earned runnerup honors with a 98. Lilly Press of Bryn Mawr was a shot behind Kunze in third place with a 99 as she opened each nine with a par, two of the three pars on her card.
Jewel Schaefer of Jamison took fourth place with a 102, Maggie Hawkins of Berwyn was fifth with a 113, Kaitlyn Hummers of Bethlehem was sixth with a 118, Julia Hasham of Coatesville was seventh with a 130 and Cloe Wright of Jackson, N.J. rounded out the 13-to-15 field as she finished seventh with a 137.
Emma Schotsch, who wrapped up a solid scholastic career at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy this spring, had seven pars, five of them on Indian Valley’s incoming nine, as she captured top honors in the 16-to-18 division with a 90.
Pennridge junior Taryn Shine had four pars, all on the front nine, as she rounded out the field of older girls with a 99 that left her in second place.
Lawson Leeper of York and Jack Luterman of Ardmore shared first place among the nine-holers as each signed for a 5-over 41.
Leeper, coming off a victory in the coed 12-and-under division last week at Valleybrook Country Club, birdied the 18th hole and had three pars in picking up a second straight Junior Tour win. Luterman had five pars in earning his share of the top spot.
Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. had five pars and Wyatt Underwood, playing not far from his Telford home, had four pars as they finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 6-over 42.
David Nissen of Lower Gwynedd took fifth place with a 45 and Sebastian Park of Lansdale and Onyu Park of Blue Bell shared sixth place, each signing for a 47.
Carter Hippauf of Quakertown, Liam Crowley of Wayne and Luka Fodiukov of Downingtown rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division as each posted a 48 to finish in a tie for eighth place.
