Spring weather actually showed up on the first day of spring and Colin Vineburg of Sparks, Md. took full advantage of the favorable conditions to card a solid 3-over-par 75 and roll to a 12-shot victory in the 16-to-18 division of a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club in Camden Wyoming Del.
The Wild Quail event was the first of a weekend Junior Golf Scoreboard Dover Series, which will wrap up Sunday at Maple Dale Country Club.
Vineburg was solid throughout as he made eight pars against a lone bogey in a 1-over 37 on the outgoing nine at the par-72 Wild Quail layout and birdied the 15th hole to match the best round of the day.
Ethan Cho of Ambler birdied the 12th hole and made six pars to earn runnerup honors with an 87. Anthony Carson of Broomall had seven pars on his scorecard on his way to an 88 that left him a shot behind Cho in third place.
Jackson Ward of Middletown, Del. took fourth place with as 91, Jake Blackmore of Pottstown was fifth with a 94, Darius Laws of Wilmington, Del. was sixth with a 96 and Colin Keiser of West Chester rounded out the 16-to-18 field as he finished seventh with a 98.
Noah Wallace of Elkton, Md. matched Vineburg’s 3-over 75 to finish atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division. Wallace made birdies at the seventh and ninth holes in putting together a 1-over 37 on Wild Quail’s outgoing nine and finished with 11 pars on his card. Wild Quail must have been playing tough, making the rounds recorded by Vineburg and Wallace all the more impressive.
Ajeet Bagga of Blue Bell birdied the 12th hole while touring the incoming nine in 1-over 37 as he carded an 81 that left him six shots behind Wallace in second place. Bagga had nine pars on his card. Hank Kancher of Philadelphia had five birdies on his card, four of them coming in a 1-over 37 on the back nine as he finished a shot behind Bagga in third place with an 82.
Nathan Smith of Crumpton, Md. and Thomas Young of Center Valley finished in a tie for fourth place, each signing for an 89. Rudy Mench was a shot behind Smith and Young in sixth place with a 90.
Evan Gebhart of Magnolia, Del. took seventh place with a 92, Jacob Gabbard of Lewes, Del. was eighth with a 93 and John Stevenson of Flourtown rounded out the 13-to-15 division field as he finished ninth with a 96.
It was a strong showing by all three girls who teed it up in the 13-to-15 division with Team Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J. going 1-2 at the top of the leaderboard. Samantha Loninger made 10 pars on her way to an 82 that enabled her to edge Amelia Loninger by two shots and claim the division victory. Amelia Loninger, the older of the two Loningers, had seven pars, including three straight on the front nine as she registered an 84 to earn runnerup honors.
Reagan Garnsey, playing close to her Camden Wyoming, Del. home, birdied the third hole and had seven pars on her card as she finished three shots behind Amelia Loninger in third place with a 87.
Kayla Brosius of Magnolia, Del. had two pars, one on each nine, as she captured top honors in the girls 16-to-18 division with a 97. Sophia Chesner of Moorestown, N.J. birdied the 10th hole as she was the runnerup with a 106.
Jake Hollerback of Millsboro, Del. bested the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 40 that was highlighted by five pars, including three straight on the second, third and fourth holes. Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. had three pars as he earned runnerup honors with an 8-over 44.
Chase Wilson of Talleyville, Del. had back-to-back pars on the third and fourth holes as he finished in third place with a 47. Declan Conner of Swarthmore took fourth place with a 51 and James Kulsea of Doylestown rounded out the coed 12-and-under field as he finished fifth with a 69.
