Colin Vineburg of Sparks, Md. capped a strong weekend on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior tour by completing a sweep of the Junior Golf Scoreboard Dover Series events Sunday with a 3-over-par 75 that gave him a victory in the 16-to-18 division at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, Del.
Vineburg had birdies at the sixth and 12th holes and matched par on the back nine with a 36 on his way to a 3-over total over the par-72 Maple Dale layout. Vineburg had also carded a 75 to take top honors among the older guys Saturday in a stop at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club in Camden Wyoming, Del.
The Junior Tour didn’t break out the weekend JGS Dover Series results, but it was easy enough to figure out who played both events and Vineburg’s 150 total over the two days made him an easy winner in the 16-to-18 division.
Anthony Carson of Broomall registered back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th holes on his way to an 81 that gave him runnerup honors at Maple Dale, six shots behind Vineburg. Carson was also the runnerup for the weekend as his 81, combined with the 88 he signed for at Wild Quail, gave him a 169 total.
Adam Chen of Wayne had five pars on his way to an 87 that left him alone in third place. Ethan Cho of Ambler and Darius Laws of Wilmington, Del. shared fourth place, each posting an 89. Cho, who carded an 87 at Wild Quail, finished third in the JGS Dover Series with a 176 total.
Jake Blackmore of Pottstown took sixth place at Maple Dale with a 92, Strath Haven junior Colin Beucler was seventh with a 100 and Episcopal Academy freshman Jack Yearley was eighth with a 105. Beucler helped the Panthers capture the team title in last fall’s Central League Championship at Downingtown Country Club.
Another member of that Strath Haven team, sophomore Tyler Debusschere, had a birdie on the 10th hole and an eagle on the par-5 12th on his way to an even-par 36 on Maple Dale’s incoming nine as he carded a 6-over 78 to take top honors in the 13-to-15 division. The Central League played a limited schedule last fall as it wrestled with coronavirus pandemic protocols and Debusschere used that opportunity to play some really solid golf in the Junior Tour’s weekend events.
Evan Gebhart of Magnolia, Del. was the runnerup among the younger guys as birdied the 12th hole and had eight pars, including four straight on the final four holes, while registering an 82 that left him four shots behind Debusschere in second place. Hank Kancher of Philadelphia had seven pars as he finished a shot behind Gebhart in third place with an 83.
Kancher, however, was the JGS Dover Series winner for the weekend in the 13-to-15 division as his 83 at Maple Dale, combined with a 92 at Wild Quail, gave him a 165 total. Gebhart was the runnerup for the weekend as his 82 at Maple Dale, combined with a 92 at Wild Quail, gave him a 174 total.
Nathan Smith of Crumpton, Md. finished fourth in the division at Maple Dale with a 95, which, combined with an 89 he posted at Wild Quail, left him in third place in the JGS Dover Series with a 184 total.
Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills finished in fifth place at Maple Dale with a 97, Jacob Gabbard of Lewes, Del. was sixth with a 100 and Noah Richardson of Malvern rounded out the 13-to-15 field as he took seventh with a 103.
The best score among the girls at Maple Dale emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. had six pars on her scorecard on her way to a 90 that gave her the victory. Reagan Garnsey od Dover, Del. also had six pars as she finished just a shot behind Bunch in second place with a 91.
Garnsey took advantage of the proximity of the JGS Dover Series to her Dover home to capture series honors among the younger girls. Garnsey’s 91 at Maple Dale, combined with an 87 Saturday at Wild Quail, gave her a 178 total for the weekend.
North Penn sophomore Hayley Ekert had four pars, two on each side, as she claimed the win in the girls 16-to-18 division with a 93. West Chester Rustin senior Mary Emma Guldi and Carla Gavant of Hoboken, N.J. shared runnerup honors as each posted a 95. Each had four pars on her scorecard.
Kayla Brosius of Magnolia, Del. rounded out the 16-to-18 field as she finished in fourth place with a 109. Brosius was the only girl in the division to tee it up at Wild Quail, where she carded a 97, and at Maple Dale and captured series honors with her 216 total.
Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. bested the field of nine-holers with a 7-over 43. Joiner parred the first hole and closed his round with pars at eight and nine. Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. had three pars and was a close second, just a shot behind Joiner with a 44.
Jake Hollerback of Millsboro, Del. and Ian Rotto of Kennett Square finished in a tie for third place, each signing for a 45. Hollerback got off to a fast start with a par at the first hole while Rotto had two pars on his scorecard.
Hollerback topped the field of nine-holers with a 40 at Wild Quail and his 45 at Maple Dale gave him top honors in the JGS Dover Series with a total of 85. Joiner, who carded a 44 at Wild Quail, was the runnerup in the series with an 87 total.
A couple of Nazareth guys, Holden Spikes and Alex DiGiacinto, rounded out the coed 12-and-under field as Spikes took fifth place with a 46 and DiGiacinto was sixth with a 53.
