Logan Paczewski reached the PIAA Class AAA Championship as a
freshman at Dallas a year ago and he’s hoping to make it back in a couple of
weeks.
Given a chance to reacquaint himself with the Heritage Hills
Golf Resort layout that annually hosts the state championship, Paczewski did
just that, teeing it up in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Saturday
at Heritage Hills in Springettsbury Township, York County.
Looks like all systems are go. Paczewski blistered the
6,312-yard, par-71 Heritage Hills layout for five birdies against a lone bogey
to claim a victory in the 16-to-18 division with a sparkling 4-under-par 67.
The Class AAA East Regional will tee off Monday at the
Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood and Paczewski will need to play well enough
there to get through to the PIAA Championship, but his performance at Heritage
Hills should give him some confidence for Monday’s regional.
Paczewski will find a significantly tougher Heritage Hills
layout than the one he lit up Saturday should he make it to the PIAA
Championship, but it can’t hurt just to remind yourself some places where you
don’t want to be at the tricky Heritage Hills course.
Elijah Ruppert, who competed in the PIAA Class AA
Championship as a sophomore at Brandywine Heights a year ago, also completed a
successful scouting mission at Heritage Hills as he registered three birdies
and was the runnerup to Paczewski with a 4-over 75.
John Bradbeer of Bryn Mawr had a birdie on his scorecard
while finishing third with a 5-over 76.
Muhlenberg senior Tyler Kipp, another player who reached the
PIAA Class AAA Championship at Heritage Hills a year ago, headed a group of
three players tied for fourth at 6-over 77. Joining Kipp at 77 were Thomas
Lynch of Dunmore and Zachary Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J.
Michael Sewack of Scranton finished alone in seventh place with
a 78 and Chris Waldmann of Malvern and Michael Lynch III of Dunmore’s Team
Lynch finished in a tie for eighth place, each carding an 81.
Rounding out the top 10 were two players, Brett Strong of
Hawley and M.J. Stivala of Dunmore, who finished in a tie for 10th
place, each signing for an 83.
Brady Davidson of Mechanicsburg had a solid round with 11
pars and a birdie to take the top spot in the 13-to-15 division. Mason Tucker
of York was the runnerup with an 80.
Reed Krosse, another York entry, was a shot behind Tucker in
third place with an 81. Jesse Shue of Columbia took fourth place with an 84,
Dante Billoni of Lancaster was fifth with an 85 and Lane Krosse of York’s Team
Krosse was sixth with an 86.
Josh Baker of West Chester finished in seventh place with a
91, Patrick Doran, another York entry, was eighth with a 94 and Michael Fisher
of Philadelphia was ninth with a 96.
Elle Overly of Lititz had four pars and two birdies on her
way to an 83 that left her atop the leaderboard in the girls 13-to-15 division. Heritage Hills played at 5,361 yards to a par of 72 for the girls.
Samantha Loninger of Team Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J. and
Erica Honadel of Bel Air, Md. shared second place, each posting a 90 and yet
another Crosswicks, N.J. Team Loninger entry, Amelia Loninger, took fourth
place with a 98.
Tyler Fortney of Fayetteville made pars on the first and
sixth holes on Heritage Hills’ front nine to best the field of nine-holers with
a 6-over 42. Zachary Rengen of Mechanicsburg and Lawson Leeper of York shared
second place, each carding a 43.
Three more York girls rounded out the coed 12-and-under
nine-hole division as Olivia Kury took fourth place with a 55, Bryn Krosse,
another Team Krosse entry, was fifth with a 61 and Sophia Enriquez was sixth
with a 70.
