With the wraparound 2018-’19 season winding down, Kayla
Maletto of Sinking Spring claimed her eighth win of the season, firing a
1-over-par 71 in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop Friday at Indian
Spring Country Club in Marlton, N.J.
Maletto had birdies at the sixth, ninth and 17th
holes and 12 pars in recording the best round of the day over an Indian Spring
layout that measured 5,950 yards for the girls and played to a par of 70 as she
won top honors in the 13-to-15 division.
The 2018-’19 season concludes with Monday’s Junior Tour
Championship at Coatesville Country Club with the 2019-’20 campaign getting
started later in the week.
Rhianna Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting had a strong round of
her own in claiming runnerup honors behind Maletto as she birdied the 11th
hole and had 10 pars in a 7-over 77.
Curstan Bunch of Wilmington, Del. birdied the fourth hole
and had four pars on the back nine as she posted an 84 to finish in third
place. Hannah Puc of Marlton, N.J. took fourth place with an 89.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. had seven pars as she
earned top honors in the 16-to-18 division with an 88.
Julia Ergood of Marlton, N.J. was the runnerup with a 95
that featured a par on the sixth hole. Skye Mada of Cherry Hill, N.J. opened
her round with a birdie at the first hole hon her way to a 103 that enabled her
to finish in third place.
The best round among the boys also came out of the younger
13-to-15 division as Jack Ross of Medford Lakes, N.J. had birdies on the 13th
and 17th holes and added 10 pars as he carded a 4-over 74 on an
Indian Spring layout that measured 6,285 yards for the guys to take top honors
in his division.
Tyler Smith of Maple Shade, N.J. and Matthew Normand of
Lumberton, N.J. shared second place, each posting an 80. Smith had 10 pars,
including a run of five straight in the middle of his round. Normand had a
birdie on the fourth hole and finished his round with four straight pars.
Luke Turse of Hainesport, N.J. took fourth place with an 81,
Glenallen Thomas of Newtown Square was fifth with an 82, Kendell Gordon of
Burlington Township, N.J. was sixth with an 83 and Justin Forman of Sewell,
N.J. was seventh with an 84.
Jacob Boyce of Elkton, Md. finished eighth with an 85, Luca
Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. was ninth with an 87, Robert Dominy of Moorestown,
N.J. was 10th with an 88 and Riley Palomata of Westampton, N.J. was
11th with a 92.
Four players shared first place in the 16-to-18 division as
Logan Hay of Bordentown, N.J., Jack Reid of Marlton, N.J., Christopher Waldmann
of Malvern and Jake Sokalsky, gearing up for his senior season at Garnet
Valley, each posted a 6-over 76.
Tyler Geatens of Williamstown, N.J. and Bobby Johnson of
Mullica Hill, N.J. shared fifth place, each carding an 81. Matthew Van Istendel
of Haddon Heights, N.J. took seventh place with an 82.
Carl Michael Lim of Franklinville, N.J. finished eighth with
an 88, William Boyce of Team Boyce out of Elkton, Md. was ninth with a 102 and
Massimo Ferracci of Gladwyne rounded out the top 10 as he finished alone in 10th
place with a 119.
Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. and Samuel Feeney of West
Chester finished in a tie for first among the nine-holers, each firing a solid
3-over 38. Marshall had six pars, including three straight on the second, third
and fourth holes. Feeney had a birdie on the first hole and recorded four pars.
Ethan Martin was the third player in the 12-and-under coed
division to break 40 as he had a birdie on the sixth hole on his way to a
4-over 39 that left him in third place.
Paul Reilly of West Creek, N.J. finished fourth with a 45,
Savannah Thompson of Seaville, N.J. was fifth with a 46 and Joseph Collazo of Moorestown,
N.J. was sixth with a 61.
