Rotelle fires 76 at Galen Hall to claim a Junior Tour victory


   Jake Rotelle of Honey Brook had three birdies in a 4-over-par 76 to take the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at soggy Galen Hall Golf Club in Wernersville, Berks County, Saturday.
   Heavy overnight rains drenched the course before finally subsiding early in the morning and giving way to clearing conditions. Rotelle finished off his round with four straight pars over the 6,291-yard, par-72 Galen Hall layout.
   Mario Ventresca III of Blue Bell had three birdies on his way to an 81 that earned him runnerup honors. Ethan Kuhlkin took a road trip from New York City and finished third with a round of 82 that included a string of five straight pars on the front nine.
   Adam MacMillan of Cranbury, N.J. finished fourth with an 84, Luke Ciccarelli of Danville was fifth with an 85 and Keith Nelton of Malvern was sixth with a 90.
   Luke Kelly of Wayne and Jack Farkas of Ardmore shared seventh place, each posting a 91. Stephen Cain of Yardley took ninth with a 95, Grey Conta of Hummelstown was 10th with a 97 and Ryan Reed of Manheim was 11th with a 115.
   Connor Gherghel of Orwigsburg had 13 pars on his scorecard, including four straight to finish his round, as he carded an 80 that gave him the top spot in the 13-to-15 division. Jake Shmonov of Harrisburg made 11 pars in claiming runnerup honors with an 81.
   Matthew Zerfass of Macungie and Dylan Kochis of Exton each carded an 82 with Zerfass taking home the third-place medal in a scorecard playoff. Michael Walz of Berwyn took fifth with an 84 and Zachary Sandler of Gladwyne was sixth with an 85.
   Graham White of West Chester and Franklin Zhu of Warren, N.J. finished in a tie for seventh, each carding an 87. Glenallen Thomas of Newtown Square finished ninth with a 93, Evan Jozwiak of Sinking Spring was 10th with a 104 and Thaddeus Griffin of Pipersville was 11th with a 120.
   Episcopal Academy sophomore Kathleen Mark finished with a pair of pars to finish with a 99 that gave her a first-place finish in the girls 16-to-18 division. Peyton Kraras of Wyomissing had three pars to finish a shot behind Mark in second with a 100.
   Kayla Maletto of Sinking Spring had the best score of the day among the girls competing at Galen Hall as she made three birdies, including one to finish her round on the 18th hole, to card a 6-over 78 and capture top honors in the 13-to-15 division that included some talented youngsters.
   A couple of Furlong girls, Ellison Lundqvist and Abigail Lynn, finished second and third with respective scores of 85 and 87. Lundqvist had a birdie and four pars on her scorecard and Lynn had eight pars, including three straight to finish her round.
   Rhianna Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting took fourth with an 89 and Aise Mumcu of Princeton, N.J. was fifth with a 95.
   Ethan Martin of North Wales opened his round with a birdie and had two pars in an 8-over 45 that bested the field of nine-holers. Martin was coming off a runnerup finish in a Junior Tour stop Friday at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York County.
   Lawson Leeper of York had two pars on his way to a 53 that gave him runnerup honors. Jillian Burks of Paoli had two pars as she took third with a 55.
   Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills finished fourth with a 64 and Alexander Gibbs of East Norriton was fifth with a 66.
