Caleb Ryan’s game appears to be in good shape heading into the District One Class AAA Championship.
Ryan, a senior who represents Norristown High during the high school golf season, fired a 1-under-par 69 to capture the top spot in the 16-to-18 division
in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at The Bucks Club in Jamison Saturday.
It was a remarkably consistent round for Ryan, who is hoping
to make a third straight trip to the PIAA Championship in his senior season.
Ryan had 17 pars and a birdie on the 10th hole as he earned his
first Junior Tour victory of the wraparound 1018-’19 season.
Zachary Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J. was the runnerup with a
76. Caleb Ryan’s younger brother Joshua, a sophomore on the Norristown High
golf team, finished third with a 78.
Joshua Ryan captured the Pioneer Athletic Conference title a
couple of weeks ago with a 1-under 70 at Gilbertsville Golf Club, edging big
brother Caleb by a shot. Joshua Ryan joined Caleb Ryan at the Heritage Hills
Golf Resort in York County as a PIAA qualifier as a freshman a year ago.
The Ryan brothers figure to be among the contenders for the
District One Class AAA title when the championship tees off Monday at Turtle
Creek Golf Club in Limerick. The field will be cut after Monday’s first round
with a second round to be played Tuesday. The talent runs deep in District One.
It should be a very interesting couple of days at the Turtle. I’m hoping to
head up there Tuesday for the final round and do a little live blogging.
Jake Rotelle of Honey Brook, coming off his first career
Junior Tour victory last weekend at Gilbertsville, carded an 81 to finish

a strong Malvern Prep team this fall, topped the field in the 13-to-15 division
with a 4-over 74 that included birdies at the 11th and 15th

Lynn in second with a 97. Stefania Fedun of Glenmoore took third with a 105 and
Amelia Loninger of Team Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J. was fourth with a 108.
Tommy Marshall of Marlton, N.J. bested the field of
nine-holers in a scorecard playoff after he and Samuel Feeney of West Chester’s
Team Feeney, each posted a 5-over 41. Marshall’s total of 25 for the final six
holes gave him the tiebreaker edge.
Hank Kancher of Philadelphia and Hunter Probst of Bear Creek
shared third place, each landing on 42. Probst had won his last six Junior Tour
starts and didn’t miss making it seven straight by much.
