Gavin Harvey of Jacobus managed a 6-over-par 78 in cold,
windy weather to capture the 16-to-18 division on the western edge of the
Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour’s boundary at Regents’ Glen Country Club
in York Sunday.
Harvey birdied the ninth hole on his way to earning his
first Junior Tour victory. Clay Breidenstine of Hummelstown was the runnerup
with an 88 over the 6,224-yard, par-72 Regents’ Glen layout.
Channing Bratton of Felton finished third with a 93, Aiden
Fissel of Spring Grove was fourth with a 108 and Parker Farnell of Ambler was
fifth with a 110.
Alex Gekas, playing on his home course, took top honors in
the 13-to-15 division with a 7-over 79. Gekas birdied the 10th hole
and, like Harvey, was a first-time Junior Tour winner. Jun Lee, like Gekas a
York resident, was the runnerup with an 82.
Trevor Snyder of Dover took third with an 84 and Alex
Williams of Elizabethtown was fourth with an 89. Pretty good playing by all
four of the younger guys to break 90 in really tough conditions. I caught a
loop at Stonewall, just less than 70 miles east of York, Sunday and it was not
an easy day to play golf.
Central Bucks East junior Sarah Scarpill, coming off a nice
scholastic season that saw her reach the PIAA Class AAA East Regional last week
at Golden Oaks Golf Club, was the lone entry in the girls 16-to-18 division and
earned the win with a 94. Scarpill had a solid 6-over 42 on the front nine.
A couple of York guys playing close to home, Reed Krosse and
Mason Tucker, battled it out for the top spot among the nine-holers with Krosse
making up a one-shot deficit late to claim a one-shot victory. Krosse carded a
50 while Tucker, coming off a victory in Saturday’s Junior Tour stop at
Foxchase Golf Club, had a 51.
Nick Linkchorst of Glen Mills finished third with a 61.
