Christian Matt finished strong, going even-par on the back
nine, as he posted the best score of the day in capturing the top spot in the
13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Frog Hollow
Golf Club in Middletown, Del. Saturday.
Matt of Springhouse made birdie on the 10th hole and parred in
starting from the 13th hole to finish off a 6-over-par 77 over the
6,371-yard, par-71 Frog Hollow layout.
Evan Barbin of Elkton, Md. was the runnerup with a 79.
Daniel Shin of Horsham, moving up from the ranks of the nine-holers, took third
with an 80, Ryan Dolan of Newark, Del. was fourth with an 82 and Kevin Lafond
of Blue Bell was fifth with an 83.
William Huntley of Lansdale and Kristof Kopecky of Garnet
Valley, another player moving up from the nine-holers, shared sixth place, each
carding an 86. Joseph Madden of Oxford finished eighth with an 87, Nicholas
Joyce of Quakertown, moving up from the nine-holers as well, was ninth with an
88 and Brendan Meagher of Swedesboro, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in 10th
with a 91.
Zachary Loninger, one of two winners from Team Loninger of
Crosswicks, N.J., had three birdies on the back nine on his way to a 79 that
left home alone atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division.
Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del. and Jackson Paradee of
Dover, Del. shared runnerup honors as each posted an 80. Plymouth-Whitemarsh
sophomore Dylan Gooneratne and Colby Hook of Selbyville, Del. finished tied for
fourth at 81 and Tyler Peters and Jake Rotelle of Honey Brook ended up in a tie
for sixth at 83.
Carl Michael Lim of Franklinville, N.J. took eighth with an
85, Brandon Farley of Mickleton, N.J. was ninth with an 89 and Luke Connors of
Garnet Valley rounded out the top 10, finishing alone in 10th with a
90.
Niosha Parvizi of Gladwyne was the only 16-to-18 girl to tee
it up and she shot a 94 to gain her first Junior Tour victory. Parvizi’s round
was highlighted by pars at the sixth and eighth holes.
Kayla Loninger gave Team Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J. its
second gold medal of the day as she edged Stefania Fedun of Glenmoore by a shot
to claim the top spot in the 13-to-15 division. Kayla Loninger had back-to-back
pars on the 13th and 14th holes on her way to a 92. Fedun
carded a 93 to earn runnerup honors.
Hunter Probst of Bear Creek posted a 5-over 40 that was
highlighted by three straight pars at the second, third and fourth holes to top
the field of nine-holers. Rhianna Gooneratne of Team Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting
was the runnerup with a 43.
Rachel Joyce of Quakertown’s Team Joyce finished third with
a 44 and Nick Linckhorst of Glen Mills and Reed Krosse of York shared fourth
place, each carding a 48.
Mason Tucker, another entry from York, took sixth with a 50
and a third member of Team Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J., Amelia Loninger, was
seventh with a 53.
