Methacton senior Kyle Vance, a two-time District One Class
AAA champion, finds himself tied for third after three rounds of the Junior PGA
Championship, presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks, at Wannamoisett
Country Club in Rumford, R.I.
Vance, a co-leader after two rounds, struggled at times on
his way to a 3-over 72 Thursday over the par-69 Wannamoisett layout. That left
him tied for third with two other players at 1-over 208, two shots behind
Norman Xiong of Canyon Lake, Calif.
Xiong had a 1-under 68 to sit atop the leaderboard at
1-under 206. Davis Shore of Knoxville,
Tenn. also carded a 1-under 68 and is alone in second place, a shot behind
Xiong at even-par 207.
Vance was joined at 1-over 208 by Kyle Hogan of Cypress,
Texas, who had a 71, and Garrett Barber of Stuart, Fla., who had a 67.
Vance had four bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine
Thursday, but made five birdies against two bogeys on the back nine to remain
in contention.
Leading the way in the girls division is Mariel Galdiano of Pearl
City, Hawaii. So impressive in winning medalist honors at last week’s U.S.
Women’s Amateur at Rolling Green Golf Club, Galdiano added a 67 Thursday to the
women’s course record 64 she fired in Tuesday’s opening round.
The girls division was shortened to 54 holes when rain wiped
out play Wednesday. Galdiano, a member of the U.S. Curtis Cup team, is at
11-under 131. Par is 71 for the girls.
That gives her a three-shot lead over Gina Kim of Chapel
Hill, N.C., who had her second straight 67 for an 8-under 134 total.
