Haverford School All-Delco Max Siegfried will represent the
Golf Association of Philadelphia as it plays host to the 52nd
Williamson Cup beginning Tuesday at Saucon Valley Country Club’s Weyhill Course
and Siegfried will be coming off a
strong finish at an American Junior Golf Association event.
Siegfried helped the Fords regain the Inter-Ac League title
from Malvern Prep as a junior last fall and has had a strong summer on the
links, particularly in the GAP events.
He is the lone returnee on the team of top GAP juniors from
last year’s Williamson Cup entry, which finished seventh at Club
Laval-sur-le-Lac in Quebec. Siegfried, representing Aronimink Golf Club, will
be joined on this year’s team by Hartefeld National’s Evan Brown, LuLu Country
Club’s Jack Melville and Methacton junior Kyle Vance, who defeated Siegfried in
the GAP Junior Boys’ Championship final this summer.
As a returning team member, Siegfried will be counted on to
fill a leadership role.
“Have fun and stay with it,” Siegfried told the GAP website in
explaining his thoughts on the team concept. “Work hard. Remember it’s a team
event, so don’t give up if you’re playing bad. You can still help out the team.”
The event will kick off with an opening ceremony Tuesday
night. The featured speaker will be Danny Briere, one of the heroes of the
Flyers’ run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010.
Siegfried tuned up for the Williamson Cup by firing a
sizzling final round of 6-under 66 at Cattail Creek Country Club Thursday to
earn a tie for second in the AJGA’s David Leadbetter Championship in Glenwood,
Md.
Siegfried had opened with rounds of 74 and 73. The
final-round 66 gave him a 3-under 213 total. Rij Patel of Hunt Valley, Md. was
the top finisher with three straight 70s for a 6-under 210 total.
Brent Ito (71-76-66) of Ardsley, N.Y. and Leonard Lee
(74-72-67) of Wyckoff, N.J. shared second with Siegfried at 213.
Vinay Ramesh, who won the PIAA Class AAA title as a senior
at Pennsbury last fall, had rounds of 77, 67 and 77 and finished in a tie for
12th at 221.
On the girls side, Julia Calbi of South Barrington, Ill.
topped the field with rounds of 77, 73 and 69 for a 218 total.
Isabella DiLisio, the 2013 PIAA Class AAA champion as a
junior at Mount St. Joseph, finished in a tie for third with rounds of 76, 72
and 80 for a 228 total. Jackie Rogowicz, a two-time District One champion and
two-time PIAA Tournament runnerup at Pennsbury, finished seventh with rounds of
77, 82 and 73 for a 232 total.
Radnor junior Gabby Kim finished 21st with rounds
of 82, 80 and 79 for a 241 total.
