Brody Calle, a senior on the Owen J. Roberts golf team playing close to his Spring City home, carded a solid 2-over-par 72 at Spring Hollow Golf Club to capture a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division Oct. 5th.
Calle made birdies on the second, seventh and 16th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard. Eight of those pars came on Spring Hollow’s incoming nine as he toured the back nine in 1-under 34.
Calle punched his ticket to this week’s District One Class AAA Championship at Turtle Creek Golf Course with a solid showing in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Championship Sept. 22nd at the Turtle.
Looks like the District One Championship has been pushed back a day and will now get under way with opening-round play Tuesday followed by the second round Wednesday.
Robert Schlegel, another Spring City resident, made a birdie on the fourth hole and had nine pars on his card, including a run of four pars in a row from 10 through 13, as he earned runnerup honors with a 78.
John McCarthy, a senior on the Upper Merion golf team, and Luke Farnese, a senior on the Plymouth-Whitemarsh golf team, shared third place, each signing for a 79.
McCarthy had 11 pars on his card, including a string of five straight pars from the 10th through the 14th holes. Farnese also had 11 pars on his card.
Chase Andrews, a junior on the Souderton golf team, and Michael Perry of Fort Washington finished in a tie for fifth place, each tallying an 80.
Andrews finished in a tie for second place in the Suburban One League Championship a couple of days later to earn a spot in the field for this week’s District One Class AAA Championship at Turtle Creek.
Jack Ferm, a junior on the Garnet Valley golf team, finished in seventh place with an 81. Ferm finished in a tie for 10th place in the Central League Championship Sept. 29th at Turtle Creek to qualify for this week’s District One Class AAA Championship back at the Turtle.
Mike White, a junior on the Springfield golf team, took eighth place with an 82 and David Watts of Haddonfield, N.J. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished ninth with a 91.
Mason Kim, a freshman on the Wissahickon golf team, made back-to-back birdies late in his round at the 16th and 17th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard as he captured a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 3-over 73.
Max Berish, a junior on the Owen J. Roberts golf team, made birdies on the sixth and ninth holes and had 11 pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors with a 76.
It was another three shots back to Jesse Shurman of Villanova as he made a birdie early in his round at the second hole, went back-to-back with birdies at 15 and 16 and had seven pars on his card, including four straight pars from 11 through 14, to finish in third place with a 79.
It capped a solid weekend for Shurman, who finished in a tie for second place in a Philly Junior Tour stop a day earlier at Berkleigh Golf Club.
Richard Davoli of Ambler took fourth place with an 80, David DiDomenico, a sophomore on the Malvern Prep golf team, was fifth with an 81, Max Charbonneau of Wayne was sixth with an 83, Steven Musacchio of Glenmoore was seventh with an 84 and Carson McNamee of Harleysville was eighth with an 85.

Lanta Chanthakad, a senior on the Conestoga golf team, went back-to-back with birdies at the 14th and 15th holes and had five pars on her card as she rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division with a runnerup finish with an 84.
Chanthakad had finished in a tie for seventh place in the Central League Championship at Turtle Creek the previous Monday to punch her ticket to the District One Class AAA Championship.
The postponed opening round of the district girls championship will tee off Tuesday at Raven’s Claw Golf Club. The survivors of a cut will then head down Ridge Pike to Turtle Creek for Wednesday’s second round with spots in the PIAA Class AAA Championship field up for grabs.
Another Central League girl who is headed to the District One Class AAA Championship, Springfield sophomore Delaney Kearney, made a birdie on the 17th hole and had three pars on her scorecard as she finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with an 85.

Sonia Rosenman of Moorestown, N.J. earned runnerup honors with a 111 and Antonella Ferrer of Wynnewood rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in third place with a 125.
I’ve been touting the competitive balance among the boys 12-and-under nine-holers all season and it was never more evident than it was at Spring Hollow, where four players finished in a tie for first place, each signing for a 2-over 37.
The group included Helmut Dang of Newtown Square, Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del., Jackson Ehrlich of Berwyn and Baylor Keim of Blue Bell.
Dang went back-to-back with birdies at the fifth and sixth holes and had four pars on his scorecard. Wang made birdies on the third and fifth holes and had five pars on his card, including four straight to finish out his round. Wang was 2-under for his final seven holes.
Ehrlich made a birdie at the sixth hole and had seven pars on his card, including three straight pars to close out his round. Ehrlich was 1-under for his final six holes. Keim, a 10-year-old, made seven straight pars to open his round. Pretty good playing for a kid who’s only 10.
Samuel Karas, another Blue Bell guy, Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr and Dean Matta of West Grove, were two shots behind the top four, each ending up in a tie for fifth place with a 4-over 39.
Joey Charpentier of Schwenksville took seventh place with a 40 and Grayson Wright of Philadelphia and Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the boys 12-and-under division as they finished in a tie for ninth, each tallying a 41.
That’s 10 guys separated by four shots. Pretty remarkable.
Nice turnout in the girls 12-and-under division with Emilie Davoli, another member of Ambler’s Team Davoli, earning a Philly Junior Tour victory with a 7-over 42. Emilie Davoli, just 11-years old, made a birdie at the sixth hole and had pars at two and three on her scorecard.
Two members of Team Brillman out of Elkins Park, Eleanor Brillman and Evelyn Brillman, and Katelyn Burks of Paoli finished in a tie for second place, each landing on 45.
Eleanor Brillman made birdies on the second and sixth holes, Evelyn Brillman made pars at three and seven, and Burks had four pars on her card.
Lillian Fry of Pennsburg took fifth place with a 47, Brianna Testaiuti of Newtown Square was sixth with a 50 and Sydney Lim of Harleysville rounded out the field in the girls 12-and-under division as she finished seventh with a 53.
