William Quartermain of Bryn Mawr has quietly emerged as one of the better young players in the region.
In addition to being a fixture on Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour leaderboards, Quartermain captured the Golf Association of Philadelphia’s Junior-Junior Championship last summer at the Moorestown Field Club.
He is the younger brother of Riley Quartermain, who was a scholastic standout at Haverford High and is a member of women’s golf team at North Carolina.
Playing in the younger 13-to-15 division, Quartermain had the best score of the day among the guys with a 4-over-par 74 to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory on a summery Saturday in a stop at Bensalem Township Country Club.
Quartermain had a steady round that included birdies at the first and fifth holes and he had 10 pars on his scorecard.
Charles Blok of Downingtown made birdies on the third, 12th, 14th and 17th holes and had six pars on his card as he earned runnerup honors in the division with a 79.
Brody Campbell of Plymouth Meeting and Mason Kim of Blue Bell finished a shot behind Blok in a tie for third place, each landing on 80.
Campbell made a birdie on the 15th hole and had eight pars on his card. Kim made an eagle on the par-5 third hole and had seven pars on his card.
Rithvik Nimma of Newtown took fifth place with an 82, Daniel Ross of Harleysville was sixth with an 83 and Jesse Shurman of Villanova was seventh with an 84.
Justin Stickel, a freshman on the Council Rock South golf team, and Beckett Kush of Yardley ended up in a tie for eighth place, each posting an 85 and Nolan Traczykiewicz, a sophomore at Central Bucks South, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished in 10th place with an 86.
Harry Traynor, a junior on the Great Valley golf team, made birdies on the third, ninth and 15th holes and had six pars on his scorecard as he finished at the top of the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division with an 8-over 78.
Luke Wimoth, a sophomore on the Upper Dublin golf team, had nine pars on his card as he finished two shots behind Traynor in second place with an 80.
Ian Zuroski, a sophomore on the Methacton golf team, Brian McGinty, a sophomore on the Bensalem golf team playing close to home at Bensalem Township Country Club, and Matthew Smith of Hammonton, N.J. shared third place, each landing on 84.
Zuroski made a birdie on the third hole and had six pars on his card. McGinty made a birdie on the 13th hole and had five pars on his card. Smith opened his round with a birdie at the first hole and had five pars on his card.
Jake Jaffe, a sophomore on the Central Bucks South golf team, took sixth place with an 85 and the trio of Will Walsh, who finished up his scholastic career at Radnor last fall, Michael Darcy of Fort Washington, and Joey Solt, a freshman on the Palmerton golf team, ended up in a tie for seventh, each signing for an 87.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was Devin Carpenter, a senior on The Haverford School’s Inter-Ac League championship team last fall and a Philadelphia resident, as he finished in 10th place with an 89.
The best score among the girls also emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Madison Cabot of Newtown made a birdie on the 13th hole and had five pars on her scorecard to earn a Philly Junior Tour victory with a solid 81.
Olivia Kirmayer of Downingtown made pars on the second and sixth holes as she finished in second place with a 103.
Kallista Spence of Phoenixville rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she registered a 117 to finish in third place.
Nicole Tarquinio of Bridgeton, N.J. made a birdie on the fourth hole and had five pars on her scorecard as she captured a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with an 85.
Mariana Walker, a junior on the Council Rock North golf team, made a birdie on the 11th hole and had three pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with a 90.
Hole 11 was marked 17x on the scorecards and was an 85-yard par-3, which might mean it was a temporary hole while some golf course repairs are under way.
Emily Renouf of Cinnaminson, N.J. had a par on the 10th hole as she rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 division by finishing in third place with a 109.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr had four pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 6-over 41.
Xunnan Dang of Newtown Square also had four pars on his card as he ended up two shots behind Muego in second place with a 43.
Blake Shurman, another member of Villanova’s Team Shurman, and Daniel Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. finished in a tie for third place, each recording a 44. Blake Shurman had four pars on his card while Dollard had two pars on his card.
Nolan English of Villanova took fifth place with a 46, Connor Masulis of Pottstown was sixth with a 47 and Andrew DElia of Clarks Summit finished seventh with a 48.
The trio of Dean Matta of West Grove, Reid Starzecki of Bryn Mawr and Adam Feith of Merion Station finished in a tie for eighth place, each posting a 49.
Carmen Caputo of Ivyland rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished in 11th place with a 50.
Trisha Lobo of Collegeville bested the field of girls 12-and-under nine-holers as she made a birdie on the fourth hole and a par at two on her way to an 8-over 43. Lobo finished in third place in the Girls 7-9 Division in the Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at the Augusta National Golf Club just over a year ago.
Emilie Davoli of Ambler made pars on the fifth and seventh holes as she earned runnerup honors, finishing just a shot behind Lobo with a 44.
Mia DeCarlo of Glen Mills, Valerie Danby of Avondale and Eleanor Brillman of Elkins Park shared third place, each ending up with a 46.
DeCarlo made a birdie on the seventh hole, Danby had a par at four and Eleanor Brillman had a par at six.
Eveyln Brillman, another member of Elkins Park’s Team Brillman, took sixth place with a 51 and Avery Jaffe of Richboro rounded out the field in the girls 12-and-under division as she finished seventh with a 66.
