Gregory Kriz, a sophomore on the St. Joseph’s Prep golf team and an Oreland resident, battled gusty winds to card a 1-over-par 73 Sunday at Regents’ Glen Country Club in York to capture a victory in the 16-to-18 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop.
Kriz made birdies at the first, sixth and seventh holes on the outgoing nine at Regents’ Glen and added back-to-back birdies on the incoming nine. He had eight pars on his scorecard.
The stop at Regents’ Glen completed a weekend swing for the Philly Junior Tour in York. A day earlier Kriz finished in fourth place at Out Door Country Club.
Andrew Brendlinger, a junior on the Perkiomen Valley golf team, made a birdie on the first hole and had 13 pars on his card, including a string of seven straight pars from the 10th through 16th holes, as he earned runnnerup honors with a 3-over 75.
Brendlinger was coming off a victory in the 16-to-18 division a day earlier at Out Door.
Deacon Golderer, a sophomore at The Haverford School and a Devon resident, and Wushouyi Sun of State College finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 79.
Golderer, coming off a tie for sixth place at Out Door, made five birdies in a six-hole stretch, rattling off three straight birdies at the fifth, sixth and seventh holes and then going back-to-back with birdies at nine and 10. He also had three pars on his card.
Sun, who finished in a tie for second place a day earlier at Out Door, made birdies on the fifth, 16th and 17th holes and had nine pars on his card.
Charlie Isler, a sophomore on the West Chester Henderson golf team, took fifth place with an 80 and the trio of Everett Harrold, a sophomore on the Central York golf team, James Sias, a junior on the Boiling Springs golf team, and Caiden Jordan of Rising Sun, Md. finished in a tie for sixth, each signing for an 82.
Tyler Myers of York took ninth place with an 83 and Aiden French, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier as a junior at Red Land last fall, rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished 10th with an 87.
Trebor Melendez, the talented 12-year-old from Vineland, N.J., matched Kriz’s 1-over 73 in the windy conditions at Regents’ Glen to finish at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division.
Melendez, coming off a tie for third place in the 13-to-15 division a day earlier at Out Door, made birdies at the first, seventh and 15th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr and Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring shared runnerup honors as each recorded an 81.
Thorkelson made a birdie on the 16th hole and had nine pars on his card. Naseem, coming off a tie for sixth place a day earlier at Out Door, made a birdie on the sixth hole and also had nine pars on his card.
Anthony Gracey, a freshman on the Central York golf team, took fourth place, Gavin Reger of Wayne and Drew Gebhard of Lebanon ended up in a tie for fifth, each landing on 83 and Henry Sokol of Villanova finished seventh with an 84.
Henry Sokol’s twin brother Jack Sokol and Zack Beaverson, another freshman on the Central York golf team, shared eighth place, each registering an 86 and Patrick Thomas of Hockessin, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished 10th with an 87.
The best score among the girls emerged from the 13-to-15 division as Gabrielle Kim of Ambler made a birdie on the 12th hole and had nine pars on her scorecard to claim a Philly Junior Tour victory with an 84.
Raegan Young of Middletown had two pars on her card as she earned runnerup honors with a 98.
Abigail Olex of Media rounded out a short field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in third place with a 126.
Andi Jones, a junior on the Cheltenham golf team, was the lone entry in the 16-to-18 division and had six pars on her scorecard while recording a solid 88.
Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. made birdies on the third, fourth and sixth holes and added a par at five as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 5-over 41.
Wang was coming off a tie for third place a day earlier in the Philly Junior Tour stop at Out Door.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr had his second straight runnerup finish as he made a birdie on the seventh hole and had two pars on his card to end up just a shot behind Wang with a 42. Muego had finished in second place a day earlier at Out Door.
Connor Michaels of Lancaster and James Wilson of Wilmington, Del. finished in a tie for third place as each signed for a 43.
Michaels, who finished in sixth place a day earlier at Out Door, had four straight pars from the second through the fifth holes on his card. Wilson made a birdie on the seventh hole and had two pars on his card.
Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. and Joey Charpentier of Schwenksville finished in a tie for fifth place, each registering a 44. Both finished among the top 10 a day earlier at Out Door with Michaels ending up in a tie for third place and Charpentier taking seventh.
Connor Masulis of Pottstown took seventh place with a 46, Dino Luccia of North Wales was eighth with a 51 and Andrew DElia of Clarks Summit was ninth with a 52. All three had top-10 finishes a day earlier at Out Door with Masulis taking sixth place, DElia ending up in a tie for eighth and Luccia in 10th.
Jasper Zhang of West Chester rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division at Regents’ Glen as he finished in 10th place with a 57.
