Andrew Brendlinger, a junior on the Perkiomen Valley golf team, got it going on his way to a 1-under-par 71 at Out Door Country Club in York Saturday to earn a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division.
Brendlinger made birdies at the second, fifth, 13th and 16th holes and had four pars on his scorecard to get it in in red figures for the day.
If Out Door got any semblance of the deluge that hit us closer to Philadelphia Friday, the junior golfers were likely greeted with some soggy conditions.
A couple of State College guys, Wushouyi Sun and Brady Wager, finished five shots behind Brendlinger in a tie for second place, each posting a 4-over 76.
Sun made a birdie on the third hole and had 12 pars on his card, eight of them on Out Door’s outgoing nine, which he toured in 1-under 35.
Wager, a junior on the State College golf team, made birdies at the second, 14th, 16th and 18th holes and had seven pars on his card. Wager helped State College finish in third place in the PIAA Class AAA team chase last fall at Penn State’s White Course.
Gregory Kriz, a sophomore on the St. Joseph’s Prep golf team and an Oreland resident, finished a shot behind Sun and Wager in fourth place with a 77 and Andrew Carroccia, a sophomore on the Devon Prep team that finished in third place in the PIAA Class AA team competition last fall and a Newtown Square resident, was another shot behind Kriz in fifth place with a 78.
Deacon Golderer, a sophomore at The Haverford School and a Devon resident, Everett Harrold, a sophomore on Central York’s District Three Class AAA championship team last fall, and William Shuford of Wayne finished in a tie for sixth place, each landing on 80.
Tyler Myers of York took ninth place with an 82 and James Sias, a junior on the Boiling Springs golf team, rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in 10th place with an 84.
William Thorkelson of Bryn Mawr matched Brendlinger’s 1-under 71 to finish at the top of the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division.
Thorkelson made birdies on the first, fifth, seventh and 17th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard, six of them on Out Door’s outgoing nine, which he toured in 3-under 33.
Henry Sokol of Villanova made a birdie on the 11th hole and had 13 pars on his card, eight of them on the front nine, as he earned runnerup honors with a 4-over 76.
Henry Sokol’s twin brother Jack Sokol and Trebor Melendez of Vineland, N.J. finished in a tie for third place, each recording a 7-over 79.
Jack Sokol had 13 pars on his card, including 10 straight par to close out his round, to finish three shots behind his brother. Melendez, the talented 12-year-old, made birdies at the sixth and 16th holes and had seven pars on his card.
Broden Donnelly of Wrightsville took fifth place with an 80 and the trio of Ian Rotto, a freshman on the Kennett golf team, Daniel Ross of Harleysville and Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring shared sixth, each ending up with an 84.
A couple of freshmen on the Central York golf team, Zack Beaverson and Anthony Gracey, rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 decision as Beaverson took ninth place with an 85 and Gracey finished 10th with an 88.
Valerie Danby, a talented 11-year-old from Avondale playing against older girls, had 10 pars on her scorecard, seven of them on Out Door’s incoming nine, as she captured a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division with an 8-over 80.
Lauren Springman, a sophomore on the Methacton golf team, made a birdie on the 11th hole and had seven pars on her card, including four straight pars to close out her round, as she earned runnerup honors with an 87.
Raegan Young of Middletown, Del. made a birdie on the 13th hole and had three pars on her card as she took third place with a 90.
Kallista Spence of Phoenixville rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished in fourth place with a 125.
Damien Dollard of Cinnaminson, N.J. made a birdie on the fifth hole and had three pars on his scorecard as he bested the field of boys 12-and-under nine-holers with a 6-over 42.
Niko Muego of Bryn Mawr had three pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Dollard in second place with a 43.
Connor Michaels of Lancaster and Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. finished in a tie for third place, each signing for a 46. Michaels made a birdie on the third hole and added a par at eight. Wang had three pars on his card.
Charlie Sears of Wilmington, Del. finished a shot behind Michaels and Wang in fifth place with a 47, Connor Masulis of Pottstown was sixth with a 49, Joey Charpentier of Schwenksville was seventh with a 50 and Jaxson Freeborn of Reading and Andrew DElia of Clarks Summit ended up in a tie for eighth, each registering a 51.
Dino Luccia of North Wales took 10th place with a 52 and James Schneider of Penn Valley rounded out the field in the boys 12-and-under division as he finished 11th with a 53.
Aashi Chakraborty of Kennett Square was the lone entry in the girls 12-and-under division and claimed a Philly Junior Tour win with a 63.
