Trebor Melendez of Vineland, N.J. celebrated the return of some springtime weather by making six birdies on his way to a sparkling 2-under-par 70 that was the best round of the day at Buena Vista Country Club in Buena Vista Township, N.J. April 28th and gave him a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour victory in the 13-to-15 division.
Melendez made birdies at the first, fourth, sixth and ninth holes on the outgoing nine at Buena Vista and added birdies at 12 and 14 on the back nine while recording eight pars and was six shots better than anyone else in the field.
Haverford School freshman Jack Luterman made birdies at the first and sixth holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 4-over 76.
Jimmy Warmkessel of Malvern and Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. finished in a tie for third place, each landing on 6-over 78. Warmkessel made birdies at the 10th and 18th holes and had 11 pars on his card. Whitney made birdies at the first, sixth and 10th holes and had eight pars on his card.
Garnet Valley sophomore Ben Mayer finished alone in fifth place with a 79 and Henry Sokol of Villanova and Quinn Gallagher of Bryn Mawr shared sixth, each posting an 81. Sokol is one of a group of players who dominated the coed 12-and-under division a year ago and he’s made the transition up a level from competing with the nine-holers to playing 18 holes.
Evan Hahn of Berlin, N.J. finished alone in eighth place with an 82 and Michael Links of Swedesboro, N.J. and Chase Baker of Huntingdon Valley rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as they ended up in a tie for ninth, each registering a 93.
Sam Rosenberg of Cherry Hill, N.J. and Roman Johnson of Cape May Court House, N.J. shared top honors in the 16-to-18 division as each signed for a 7-over 79.
Rosenberg made a birdie on the sixth hole and had nine pars on his scorecard while Johnson made a birdie at 16 and also had nine pars on his card.
Dominic Polistina of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. and Jesse Serata, another Cherry Hill guy, finished in a tie for third place, each registering an 82.
Polistina’s steady round featured 13 pars as he finished off his round with four straight pars. Serata made a birdie on third hole and had eight pars on his card.
Michael DiDomenico of Devon and Andrew Rindgen of Havertown finished in a tie for fifth place, each recording an 83. Rindgen was coming off a Philly Junior Tour victory in a stop a week earlier at Golf Pheasant Golf Club.
Lucas Yonish of Princeton, N.J. took seventh place with an 84, Archmere Academy sophomore Michael Liu, a Garnet Valley resident, was eighth with an 85 and Zach Raihall of West Chester was ninth with an 86.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division was Chase Adomaitis of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. as he finished alone in 10th place with an 88.
Alaina Carson of Broomall had five pars on her scorecard, all of them on Buena Vista’s outgoing nine, as she earned a Philly Junior Tour victory in the girls 13-to-15 division with an 86.
Amy Sun of Princeton, N.J. made a birdie at the 12th hole and had four pars on her car as she finished in second place, three shots behind Carson, with an 89. Gabrielle Kim of Ambler had four pars on her card as she finished in third place with a 95.
Mariel Fitz-Kaltenmeier of Glen Mills took fourth place with a 101, Nicole Tarquinio of Bridgeton, N.J. was fifth with a 106 and Hadley Stetson of Newtown Square rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she finished sixth with a 110.
Preston Minio of Lansdale bested the field of nine-holers as he had four pars on his scorecard on his way to an 8-over 44.
Jaxson Refold of Bryn Mawr had two pars on his card as earned runnerup honors, finishing a shot behind Minio with a 45.
David Gilman of Cape May Court House, N.J. and Grayson McCann of Downingtown shared third place, each carding a 46. Gilman had four pars on his card and McCannn had three pars on his card.
Mia DeCarlo of Wilmington, Del. and Baylor Keim of Blue Bell shared fifth place, each landing on 49, Jonathan Thomas of Landenberg was seventh with a 51, Bradan Boal of Woodbine, N.J. was eighth with a 52 and Victor Wang of Hockessin, Del. was ninth with a 54.
Alex Cheng of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the top 10 in the coed 12-and-under division, finishing in 10th place with a 59.
