Evan Gephart of Magnolia, Del. was one of three players to card an 8-over-par 80 as he finished at the top of the 16-to-18 leaderboard in Sunday’s Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, Del.
Spring finally made an appearance on a warm, sunny day in Delaware’s capital city and Gephart took full advantage as he made a birdie on the fifth hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard.
Nathan Smith of Chestertown, Md. made birdies on the third, sixth and 18th holes and had six pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Gephart in second place with an 81.
Rider Nicholl of Landenberg had 10 pars on his scorecard, including seven on Maple Dale’s incoming nine, as he finished another shot behind Smith in third place with an 82.
On the schedule, the weekend’s two Delaware events appeared to be linked as a Junior Golf Scoreboard series, which, I’m pretty sure, allows for some points toward possible exemptions for other junior circuits, including the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).
Nicholl played in both events and his third-place finish at Maple Dale, combined with his fifth in Saturday’s stop at Rock Manor, would make him the top finisher in the 16-to-18 division for the weekend.
Joshua Freeman of Middletown, Del. and Brady Conlon of Villanova shared fourth place, each recording an 83, Darius Laws of Wilmington, Del. was sixth with an 85 and Grady Adams of Yardley and Joel Perry finished in a tie for seventh place, each posting an 89.
Anthony Manzi of Newtown Square took ninth place with a 95, Luke Canino of Sewell, N.J. was 10th with a 96 and Dylan Everett of Middletown, Del. rounded out the field in the 16-to-18 division as he finished in 11th place with a 97.
Quinten Joiner of Millington, Md. and Charlie Barrickman of West Chester matched Gephart for the best round of the day as each carded an 8-over 80 to share top honors in the 13-to-15 division.
Joiner made a birdie on the 14th hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard while Barrickman made a birdie at 12 and also had 10 pars on his card.
Declan Conner of Swarthmore made a birdie on the 12th hole and had six pars on his card as he finished in third place with an 82.
The performance capped a strong weekend for Conner as he finished in a tie for second place Saturday at Rock Manor and had the best finish in the 13-to-15 division among those who played in both events.
A couple of Wilmington, Del. entries, Brendan Schott and Henry Nowak, accounted for the next two spots on the leaderboard as Schott took fourth place with an 84 and Nowak was a shot behind him in fifth with an 85.
Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. finished in sixth place with an 86 and the trio of Ben Mayer of Garnet Valley, Quinn Glass of Camden Wyoming, Del. and Collin Schreiber of Kunkletown shared seventh place, each landing on 87.
Benjamin Robbins of Holland rounded out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division as he finished alone in 10th place with a 90.
Myra Glass, another member of Team Glass of Camden Wyoming, Del., had the best score of the day among the girls as she claimed a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-18 division with a 99. Myra Glass’ round was highlighted by a par at the 14th hole.
Maia Alinskas of Millsboro, Del. rounded out a short field in the 16-to-18 as she was the runnerup with a 107 that included a par at the 12th hole.
Amelia Nace of Furlong had four pars, three of them on the outgoing nine at Maple Dale, as she earned a victory in the 13-to-15 division with a 102.
Megan Choi of Penn Valley was the runnerup with a 106 and Zuzu Connolly of Wilmington, Del. rounded out the field in the 13-to-15 division as she took third place with a 109 that featured a par on the 12th hole.
Henry Sokol of Villanova capped a solid weekend by besting the field of nine-holers with a 4-over 40. Henry Sokol, coming off a runnerup finish in Saturday’s Philly Junior Tour stop at Rock Manor, opened his round with four straight pars and finished with five pars on his scorecard.
Trebor Melendez of Vineland, N.J. and Nathan Lebo of Collegeville shared runnerup honors, each registering an 8-over 44. Melendez had four pars on his card while Lebo’s round included three pars.
Jacob Russell of Wilmington, Del. took fourth place with a 47, Jack Sokol, another member of Villanova’s Team Sokol, was fifth with a 50, Jaxson Refold of Bryn Mawr was sixth with a 53 and Jin Yan of Malvern and Xunnan Dang of Newtown Square finished in a tie for seventh, each landing on 56.
Zheng Yan, another member of Malvern’s Team Yan, took ninth place with a 59 and Chase Paxton of Wildwood, N.J. rounded out the field in the coed 12-and-under division as he finished 10th with a 62.
