Crestwood junior Derek Johnson, a PIAA Class AAA qualifier last fall, finished strong on his way to a sparkling 3-under-par 69 at Out Door Country Club in York that gave him a victory in the 16-to-18 division as the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour finished out its spring swing Saturday.
Johnson made birdies on the seventh, ninth, 13th and 16th holes and had 13 pars on his scorecard. Johnson toured the incoming nine at Out Door in 2-under 34 as he finished two shots ahead of Noah Shultz of York.
It was a pretty strong showing by Shultz as well as he did most of his damage on the outgoing nine at Out Door, posting a 5-under 31, including an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole on his way to a 1-under 71. Shultz also had birdies at the first, third and eighth holes and had 10 pars on his scorecard.
Twin Valley junior Shayne O’Doherty, who’s been known to catch a loop at Stonewall now and again, and Landry Rohrbaugh of Harrisburg each carded a 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for third place, two shots behind Shultz. O’Doherty made birdies at the first, 13th and 16th holes and had 12 pars on his card. Rohrbaugh made birdies on the second, seventh, ninth and 18th holes and had nine pars on his card.

Rounding out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division were two players tied for 10th place, Sam Wetmiller, another Selinsgrove guy, and Daniel Shin of Horsham, as each registered an 80. Wetmiller, a senior at Selinsgrove, is a two-time PIAA Class AAA qualifier.
Michael Liu of Garnet Valley also got it in under par as he finished atop the leaderboard in the 13-to-15 division with a 1-under 71. Liu made birdies on the seventh, ninth, 11th and 14th holes and had 11 pars on his scorecard. Liu toured the front nine at Out Door in 1-under 35.
Callahan Harrell of York made an eagle on the par-5 13th hole and added a birdie at 14 as he earned runnerup honors among the younger guys with a 2-over 74. Harrell had 11 pars on his card.
Declan Conner of Swarthmore made birdies on the second and 16th holes and had 11 pars on his card as he finished a shot behind Harrell in third place with a 3-over 75.
Carson Hummer of Hershey and Keegan Redmond of Hummelstown shared fourth place, each carding a 78. Yaejoon Wee of Chesterbrook sixth place with an 83, Benjamin Robbins of Holland was seventh with an 84 and Max Miller of Hershey was eighth with an 85.
Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were three players tied for ninth place at 86, including Wyatt Cudmore of Elkton, Md., Matthew McGinnity of West Chester and Drake Brogan of Ocean View, N.J.
Hannah Kopac of State College was the only entry in either of the girls divisions and her 97 gave her a Philly Junior Tour victory in the 16-to-19 division. Kopac had three pars on her scorecard, all on Out Door’s front nine.
The coed 12-and-under division was even more competitive than usual as four players – Henry Sokol of Villanova, Taimoor Naseem of Sinking Spring, Preston Minio of Lansdale and Rayan Shah of Newtown – each posted a 4-over 40 to create a four-way logjam at the top of the leaderboard among the nine-holers.
Henry Sokol had five pars, including a run of four in a row from the fifth through the eighth holes, on his scorecard. Naseem made a birdie on the seventh hole and had four pars on his card. Minio made a birdie on the sixth hole and had three pars on his card. Shah made a birdie on the ninth hole after four pars to get his piece of first place.
J.D. Sivel of Hanover took fifth place, just a shot behind the quartet tied for first place with a 41, Jack Sokol, another member of Villanova’s Team Sokol, was sixth with a 43, Ethan Clouser was seventh with a 44, Levi Haas of Carlisle was eighth with a 47 and William Hanrahan of State College was ninth with a 50.
