Vineburg gets it going on perfect fall day to claim Junior Tour victory at Mainland

    Colin Vineburg of Sparks, Md. had the best round of the day, a 5-over-par 75, to claim the top spot in the 13-to-15 division in a Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Mainland Golf Course near Lansdale.

   With temperatures in the mid-70s against the vibrant backdrop of colorful fall foliage that has continued to glow into early November, Vineburg birdied the fifth hole while touring the outgoing nine at Mainland in 1-over 36 Sunday. His scorecard included 11 pars.

   Samuel Feeney of West Chester was the only other player to break 80 as he also birdied the fifth hole and made 10 pars while recording a 79 that earned him runnerup honors in the younger age group. Nolan Corcoran of Lansdale had birdies at the third and seventh holes as he finished in third place with an 81. Nolan Corcoran had a solid 3-over 38 on the front nine.

   Conestoga sophomore Sachin Blake, coming off a tie for seventh place in the Central League Championship at Downingtown Country Club, registered an 84 to finish alone in fourth place. Jack Gallagher of Gladwyne and Alistair Demko of Hershey shared fifth place, each carding an 87.

   Landry Rohrbaugh of Harrisburg took seventh place with an 89, Chase Dillman of Gilbertsville was eighth with a 90 and Shane Fiorita of Jamison was ninth with a 91.

   Rounding out the top 10 in the 13-to-15 division were Shane Callahan of Schwenksville and Hank Kancher of Philadelphia, both of whom posted a 93 to finish in a tie for 10th place.

   Jim Kelly of Slatington finished atop the leaderboard in the 16-to-18 division as he made a birdie on the 10th hole and had 10 pars on his scorecard on his way to an 80.

   Bo Meakim of Hatboro, John Romeo of Ambler and Luke Corcoran of Lansdale’s Team Corcoran finished a shot behind Kelly, each signing for an 81 to end up in a tie for second place. Meakim had nine pars and finished strong with a 2-over 37 on the back nine. Romeo had birdies at the eighth and 10th holes. Luke Corcoran had a consistent round that included 10 pars.

   Central Bucks South’s Will Locovare was another shot behind the trio tied for second with an 82 that left him alone in fifth place. Michael Forget of Hatboro took sixth place with an 85.

   Kevin Boccella of North Wales finished in seventh place with an 88, Jack Sehon of West Chester was eighth with an 89, North Penn senior Dominic Della Penna was ninth with a 91 and Donald Sludmak of Normandy Beach, N.J. rounded out the top 10 in the 16-to-18 division as he ended up alone in 10th place with a 96.

   As with the boys, the best score of the day among the girls emerged from the younger 13-to-15 age group as Pennridge sophomore Taryn Shine, a District One Class AAA qualifier this fall, claimed a victory with an 86. Shine birdied the fifth hole and had five pars on her scorecard.

   Danielle Higbee of Mickelton, N.J. chased Shine home as Higbee also birdied the fifth hole on her way to an 87 that left her a  shot behind Shine in second place with an 87. Higbee toured the front nine at Mainland in 4-over 39.

   Rounding out the 13-to-15 field was Emerson Paulette of Allentown, N.J. as she finished in third place with a 98 that included two pars on the back nine.

   Shine’s Pennridge teammate, Ashley Ea, a senior, shared top honors in the 16-to-18 division with North Penn sophomore Hayley Ekert, each carding a 92. Ea had four pars and was 6-over 41 on Mainland’s back nine. Ekert’s round featured a birdie at the sixth hole. Like Shine, Ea and Ekert both appeared in the recent District One Class AAA Championship.

   Springside Chestnut Hill Academy senior Emma Schotsch took third place with a 96 that included two pars. Rounding out the 16-to-18 field was Sophia Chesner of Moorestown, N.J. as she finished alone in fourth place with a 101.

   Trevor Sieben of Medford, N.J. birdied the third hole and had four pars as he bested the field of nine-holers with a 5-over 40. Tyler Whitney of Cherry Hill, N.J. was the runnerup as he had four pars while posting a 43.

   Lawson Leeper of York had three pars as he finished a shot behind Whitney in third place with a 44. Ian Rotto of Kennett Square took fourth place with a 48.

   Katherine Liu of Moorestown, N.J. finished in fifth place with a 51, Benjamin Mayer of Garnet Valley was sixth with a 53 and Winston Chew of Exton was seventh with a 57.

   Ryan Kelly of Harleysville captured eighth place with a 60 and Preston Minio of Lansdale rounded out the coed 12-and-under field by taking ninth place with a 62.
