Jack Ross of Medford Lakes, N.J. made birdies at the second
and sixth holes in a bogey-free front nine on his way to a sizzling 2-under-par
68 that gave him the top spot in the 13-to-15 division as the Philadelphia
Section PGA Junior Tour opened the wraparound 2018-’19 season Friday with a
stop at Indian Spring Country Club in Marlton, N.J.
The next-best score came from Logan Hay of Bordentown, N.J.,
who captured top honors in the 16-to-18 division with a 5-over 75 over the
6,328-yard, par-70 Indian Spring layout. Hay birdied the 14th hole
on his way to a 1-over 36 total on the back nine.
Three players shared second place in the 13-to-15 division,
11 shots behind Ross at 9-over 79, including Zachary Loninger of Crosswicks,
N.J., Matthew Normand of Lumberton, N.J. and Jack Davis of Newtown Square.
Tyler Peters of Berlin, N.J. finished fifth with an 82,
Daniel Shin of Horsham, moving up from the nine-holers, took sixth with an 84,
Kevin Deng of Newtown Square was seventh with an 85 and Trey Campbell of
Haverford was eighth with an 86.
George Deming of Philadelphia, like Shin also moving up from
the nine-holers, finished ninth with an 87 and Cyrus Parvizi of Gladwyne
rounded out the top 10 in 10th with a 96.
Matthew Feeney of West Chester was the runnerup in the 16-to-18
division, three shots behind Hay with a 78. Simon Miller finished third with an
81, Kyle Bartholomew of Westampton, N.J. was fourth with an 82, Stephen Cain of
Yardley was fifth with an 85 and Tyler Geatens of Williamston, N.J. was sixth
with an 86.
Zak Summy of Media and Griffin Conroy of Moorestown, N.J.
finished tied for seventh, each carding an 87, Noah Greenspun of Cherry Hill,
N.J. was ninth with a 91 and Jeffrey Reilly Jr. of West Creek, N.J. rounded out
the top 10 in 10th with a 95.
Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J. had pars on seven, eight,
12 and 16 on her way to a 94 that gave her a one-shot edge on Sarah Scarpill of
Warrington for the top spot in the girls 16-to-18 division. Scarpill carded a
95.
Kiera Bartholomew of Westampton, N.J.’s Team Bartholomew
made six pars, three on each side, in a solid round of 84 that her the victory
in the 13-to-15 division.
Clare Gimpel, a PIAA Class AAA East Regional qualifier as a
freshman at Mount St. Joseph last fall, was the runnerup with an 87. Abigail Lynn
of Furlong finished third with a 95.
Hunter Probst of Bear Creek opened with back-to-back pars at
the first and second holes on his way to a 6-over 41 that enabled him to top
the field of nine-holers. Ethan Martin of North Wales had back-to-back pars on
the eighth and ninth holes to claim runnerup honors with a 44.
Noah Woelter of Doylestown finished third with a 45, Paul
Reilly of West Creek, N.J.’s Team Reilly and Justin Forman of Sewell, N.J.
shared fourth place, each posting a 46.
Hank Kancher of Philadelphia finished sixth with a 47 and
Joshua Baker of West Chester and Elora Walker, another Philadelphia entry,
shared seventh place, each carding a 48. Rounding out the top 10 were Samuel
Feeney of West Chester’s Team Feeney and Amelia Loninger of Crosswicks, N.J.’s
Team Loninger as each posted a 49 to finish tied for ninth.
