Jackson Debusschere of Wallingford had the best score of the
day, a sparkling 1-over 72, to claim top honors in the 13-to-15 division in a
Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour stop at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising
Sun, Md. Saturday.
Debusschere started each nine with birdies on two of the
first three holes to offset some bogeys he had sprinkled on his card over the
challenging 6,429-yard, par-71 Chesapeake Bay layout. He finished five shots
ahead of Evan Barbin of Elkton, Md., who carded a solid 77 playing close to
home in northeast Maryland.
Benjamin Files of Bethesda, Md. finished third with a 79.
Three players – Jake Shmonov of Harrisburg, Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville,
N.J. and Tyler Tarnoe of Wayne – shared fourth place, each posting a 9-over 80.
Henry Stone of Kennett Square finished alone in seventh place with an 81.
Noah Sim of Ambler and Luke Watson of Royersford finished
tied for eighth, each carding an 82. Sim’s round featured a hole-out for eagle
on the 375-yard, par-4 10th hole at Chesapeake Bay. Kevin Motil of
Sewell, N.J. rounded out the top 10 with an 88.
It was a tight battle between two of the top 16-to-18
division players on the Junior Tour with Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del.
carding a 2-over 73 to edge Caleb Ryan of Norristown by a shot to claim the
victory.
Romanov, the Graham Company Player of the Year in the
13-to-15 division in 2015-’16, made the turn in even-par 35 with a pair of
birdies and two bogeys on the outgoing nine. He had another birdie on the
incoming nine. Ryan was the Sam Penecale Scoring Average Leader in the 16-to-18
division in 2016-’17 and is a two-time PIAA Class AAA qualifier representing
Norristown High.
Another Wilmington, Del. entry, Sebert Walker, finished a
shot behind Ryan in third with a 75. Matthew Law of Yardley finished fourth
with a 75 and Brock Fassnacht, the PIAA Class AAA East Region champion as a
junior at Warwick last fall, was fifth with a 77.
Team Gerity of Yardley accounted for two of the next three
top finishers as Jack Gerity finished sixth with an 82 and Will Gerity shared
seventh place with Haverford School freshman Edward Trumpbour, each posting an
84.
Daniel Wei of Hockessin, Del. finished ninth with an 87 and
Christopher Waldmann of Malvern rounded out the top 10 with an 88.
The best score of the day among the girls belonged to
Abigail Lynn of Furlong, who claimed the top spot in the 13-to-15 division with
an 86 for her first career Junior Tour win. The Santaguida sisters of Kennett
Square waged their own little battle for second with Morgan earning runnerup
honors with a 109 and Jaclyn taking third with a 114.
Alexandra Schaffer of Lancaster was unopposed in capturing a
victory in the 16-to-18 division with a 93.
Nicholas Gross of Downingtown was flawless in capturing the
victory among the nine-holers as he made a birdie and eight pars in a sizzling
1-under 34. John Keba of Emmaus, who has been on a roll this spring, was the
runnerup with a flawless 3-over 38.
Looks like there’s another member of Team Gross from
Downingtown has arrived on the scene as Evan Gross shared fourth place with
Michael Dignazio of Wilmington, Del. at 45. Avery McCrery, another entry from
Wilmington, finished sixth with a 49, Devin Carpenter of Philadelphia was
seventh with a 50 and Mason Tucker of York was eighth with a 51.
The Graham Company is the title sponsor of the Junior Tour.
