Central Bucks East junior Patrick Sheehan put his explosive
game on display as he wrapped up a strong opening weekend of the spring portion
of the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour schedule with a victory in the
16-to-18 division at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor City, N.J.
Sunday.
As I mentioned in my post on the spring opener Saturday,
when Sheehan finished tied for third at The Vineyards, he finished second to
Spring-Ford’s Ben Pochet in a tremendous battle in the District One Class AAA Championship
at Turtle Creek last fall.
Sheehan flashed that talent again Sunday, making five
birdies, going back-to-back on 13 and 14, for a 4-under-par 68 over the
6,265-yard, par-72 Blue Heron Pines layout. It warmed up a little, but it was
still a breezy day at the Jersey Shore and Sheehan’s score was easily the best
of the day.
Michael Mitnick of Linwood, N.J. was the runnerup as he made
four birdies in an even-par72. Connor Bekefi of Toms River, N.J. was another
two shots behind Mitnick in third with a 2-over 74.
Cole Shew of West Chester, coming off a victory Saturday at
The Vineyards, carded a 78 to finish fourth.
Andrew Miller took fifth with a 79, William Tone of Moorestown, N.J. was
sixth with an 80, Calen Sanderson of Skillman, N.J. was seventh with an 81 and
Bryan Donato of Chester Springs placed eighth with an 83.
Hayden Greer, another entry from Moorestown, N.J., finished
ninth with an 84 and Christopher D’Alessandro of Waretown, N.J. and
Plymouth-Whitemarsh freshman Dylan Gooneratne rounded out the top 10 as they
finished tied for 10th after each carded an 85. Gooneratne was the
13-to-15 age group Graham Company Player of the Year in 2016-’17. The Graham
Company is the title sponsor of the Junior Tour.
Jack Tarzy of Medford, N.J. claimed his first Junior Tour
win as his 5-over 77 topped the 13-to-15 division. Tarzy’s round was
highlighted by a birdie at the 11th. Luke Watson of Royersford was a
shot behind Tarzy with a 78 that featured three birdies.
Franklin Zhu of Warren, N.J. finished third with an 80 and
Adrian Jordan of Lawrenceville, N.J. and Garnet Valley sophomore Jacob Sokalsky
shared fourth place, each posting an 81. Corey Haydu of Doylestown and Adam
MacMillan of Cranbury, N.J. finished tied for sixth at 83.
Jackson Debusschere of Wallingford finished eighth with an
85, Andrew Ranaudo Jr. of Malvern took ninth with an 87 and Kevin Motil of
Sewell, N.J. rounded out the top 10 with an 88.
Kayla Gutierrez found no challengers in the girls 16-to-18
division on two golf courses close to her Little Egg Harbor, N.J. home and took
the opportunity to claim a pair of Junior Tour victories. Gutierrez played
solid golf again, carding a 91.
Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, N.J. just continues to improve. She fired a 6-over 78, jump-starting the round with a birdie at the
second, to take top honors in an increasingly competitive 13-to-15 division.
Natasha Kiel of New Hope was a shot behind Tolentino in second with a 79.
Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood, coming off a victory Saturday
at The Vineyards, shared third place with Olivia Strigh of Hammonton, N.J.,
each carding an 87.
Kiera Bartholomew of Westampton, N.J. finished fifth with a
92, Katrina Cabinian of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. was sixth with a 93, Fiona
Gooneratne of Plymouth Meeting was seventh with a 94 and Gwendolyn Powell of
Madison Township was eighth with a 97.
Nicholas Gross of Downingtown lost out in a scorecard
playoff among the nine-holers Saturday at The Vineyards, but this time the match of cards went his way to give him a victory over John Keba of Emmaus
after each posted a solid 3-over 39.
Michael Maslanka of Taylor, who prevailed over Gross in the
scorecard playoff at The Vineyards, carded a 41 to finish alone in third.
Daniel Shin of Horsham finished fourth with a 43, Paul Reilly of West Creek,
N.J. was fifth with a 46 and Hunter Probst of Bear Creek was sixth with a 47.
Rhianna Gooneratne, the third member of the golfing
Gooneratne gang from Plymouth Meeting who made the trip to Blue Heron Pines,
finished seventh with a 51. Reed Krosse of York took eighth with a 52, Sean
Curran of Newtown Square and Mason Tucker of York shared ninth place at 53 and
Elora Walker of Philadelphia was 11th with a 55.
