Nikita Romanov of Wilmington, Del. continued what has been a
year-long string of solid play on the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour by
claiming the top spot in the 16-to-18 division in a stop at the Sand Barrens
Golf Club in Swainton, N.J. Saturday.
Romanov carded a 3-over-par 75 over the 6,485-yard, par-72
Sand Barrens layout, a total that was matched by Timothy Chaykosky Jr. of
Ambler. Romanov’s 2-under 34 on the back nine gave him the edge in the
scorecard playoff.
Hayden Moffat of Hatboro finished third with a 78, Jeff
McCarthy of Landenberg was fourth with a 79 and Cole Shew of West Chester and
Jack Cooley of Chadds Ford shared fifth place, each posting an 83.
Jerry Haftmann of Springfield finished seventh with an 84,
Peter Fabian of Manahawkin, N.J. and Ryan Kennedy of Wayne shared eighth place
at 91 and Jeffrey Reilly Jr. of West Creek, N.J. rounded out the top 10 with a
95.
Kevin Motil of Sewell, N.J. opened the back nine with a
birdie and finished the incoming nine with a birdie as he captured top honors
in the 13-to-15 division with a 6-over 78. Ryan Garvey of Media was the
runnerup with an 80.
Garnet Valley sophomore Jacob Sokalsky and Joseph Giamanco
of Middletown, N.J. finished tied for third, each posting an 82. Dylan Cordea
of Cherry Hill, N.J. finished fifth with an 83, Darren Nolan of Glenside was sixth
with an 84, Charlie Bastian of Media was seventh with an 86 and the West
Chester pair of Alexander Moore and Grady Benfer took eighth and ninth with
respective scores of 84 and 103.
Olivia Perry of Millsboro, Del. was the only player to tee
it up in the girls 16-to-18 division and her 100 gave her the victory. Perry
had four pars in her round.
Angelina Tolentino of Mount Laurel, N.J. continued her
breakout summer as she had a birdie on each side to top the field in the
13-to-15 division with an 81. Sydney Yermish of Wynnewood and Megan Adelman of
Bryn Mawr shared second place, each carding an 89.
Nicholas Gross of Downingtown birdied the par-3 fifth hole
as the bested the field of nine-holers with a 3-over 39. It was Gross’ second
win of the still young wraparound 2017-’18 season.
Hank Kancher of Philadelphia was the runnerup with a 47,
Luca Gherardi of Hammonton, N.J. was third with a 55 and Amit Limaye of Short
Hills, N.J. was fourth with a 56.
