Malvern Prep junior Matt Davis carded a 4-over-par 76 at the
Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes, N.J. Saturday to get a share of second place in
the 15-to-19 age group following the first day of an International Junior Golf
Tour major championship.
Matt Karrat of Chatham, N.J. has the lead after going
2-under on the front nine on his way to a 3-over 75. Round 2 is Sunday.
Patrick Ryan of Maplewood, N.J. shares second place with
Davis after matching his 76. The IJGT event is a nice tuneup for Davis as he
prepares to tee it up in the Bert Linton Memorial that will determine the
Inter-Ac League’s individual champion Thursday at Davis’ home course, Aronimink
Golf Club.
Daniel Bettino of Bronxville, N.Y. is alone in fourth at 77.
Haverford School sophomore Andreas Aivazoglou is tied for fifth along with Luke
Dougherty of Seagirt, N.J. and Liam Bishop of Bronxville, N.Y. as each posted a
78. Charlie Kovalcik of Yardley and Will McCann of Madison, N.J. are tied for
eighth at 79.
Another Haverford School player, senior Davis Rosato, is one
of three players tied for 10th at 80. Rosato was joined at that
figure by Mike Viggiano of Haworth, N.J. and Kyle Russo of New York.
Steven Lee of Scarsdale, N.Y. is the lone entrant in the
boys’ 14-and-under division and carded a 78.
Anna Bowman of Westfield, N.J. is leading the girls’
division by two shots after an opening-round 76. Katie Lee of Ringoes, N.J. is
alone in second place with a 78.
Sarah Perine of Staten Island, N.Y. is alone in third place
with a 79 followed by Katie Dzialga of Greenwich, Conn. another shot back in
fourth with an 80. Archbishop Wood senior Karly Brown is tied for fifth with
Marlene Tartaro of Warren, N.J. with each posting an 83.
