Merion Golf Club’s Peter Bradbeer did all he could, firing a
6-under 66 Wednesday at Makefield
Highlands Golf Club in the second round of a Philadelphia Section PGA
Junior Tour Elite Tour event, but it wasn’t enough to catch William Mitchell of
Moorestown, N.J.
Mitchell had a 66 of his own in the first round and never
took his foot off the pedal. He settled for a second-round 71 over the
6,516-yard, par-72 Makefield Highlands layout, but made seven birdies in the
round. His 7-under 134 total gave him the title in the boys division by three
shots over Bradbeer, who had an opening-round 74 before his sparkling no-bogey
66 for a 4-under 140 total.
The Elite Tour events don’t break the divisions down by age
groups, so all the 13-to-18-year olds are competing against each other.
Davis Flannery of Radnor finished up strong with a
second-round 76 and was alone in 33rd place at 163 and David Hurly
of Newtown Square had rounds of 86 and 81 to finish in a tie for 35th
at 167.
Theresa Luu of Mullica Hill, N.J. was a runaway winner among
the girls with rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161 total. Chloe Niu (86-93) of Gladwyne
and Joanie Gannon (89-90) of Lansdale finished tied for second, 18 shots behind
Luu at 179.
